I am new to this site but I have been reading alot of the posts dealing with some of these trucks not allowing it to boost properly around 10 psi well with mine I try and floor and then the truck automatically backfires and bouces the boost needle up and and down the truck jerks heavily when this is attempted otherwise it starts and runs decent I do have platinum plugs in this truck someone put em in b4 I got and have not had a chance to change em vaccum lines look good to me I need some help diagnosing this problem and the platinum plugs in there are NGK G power it just started doing this too I also only had 1/4 tank of gas in it when this started happening

Try putting in at least 3/4 tank of gas first.

Re: got an issue with my boost

don't know if it's your problem or not but with our tanks and the amount of torque we have there is a real issue with fuel sloshing away from the pickup causing a lean condition which can cause broken motor parts :)

Aside from that i'd suggest hooking up a fuel pressure gauge and check to make sure your getting good pressure.. maybe change out the fuel filter too

Re: got an issue with my boost

yeah I recently changed the filter and FP checks out did a cap and rotor change out to perf one changed the plugs out too when the mech did a test on the plug wires he said one was causing a misfire could it be this one that cuts out under load and causes a backfire through the exhaust to the point where it nearly stalls? I have changed everything else but the wires and the coil where would I possibly turn next? I tried to put more fuel in but it still does with more than 1/2 a tank in

Re: got an issue with my boost

Do you have a mechanical aftermarket boost gauge? If not, you *need* one. The stock gauge is worthless. You could be dangerously overboosting and the chip is cutting off fuel to try and save your motor from self-destruction. Also, get rid of those platinum plugs and change to NGK's. We're only talking like $14 and 15-45 minutes of your time.

Re: got an issue with my boost

yep sure do when the backfire happens it's around 10psi going to get some new wires this weekend the old ones are garbage from what the tests confirm I don't think it's overboosting it works in the range it should 15 - 17 Psi when it was working properly I also was not pushing it hard at all when this problem began

Re: got an issue with my boost

im far from the most knowledgable person about these trucks, but with a 2bar isn't 15-17psi over-boosting?

Re: got an issue with my boost

20 or more is according to what I have read on here 15 - 17 is normal range cause it never started behaving like this till recently neway got some new wires comming and they are WAYYYY better than the ones that plague that truck now

Re: got an issue with my boost

anything over 14.7psi is "technically" overboost, ecm cant read beyond that

Re: got an issue with my boost

really it didn't have a problem b4 I when I fig the last of the bugs of this mess I will check it out again.

Re: got an issue with my boost

I can say from my experiences with overboost if you even get close to the 15psi range that 2bar will shut you down. The truck cuts out and kinda jumbles and the engine light comes on. Ever since I put in a 3 bar I can boost to any level I want. But I am limited to what I can safely run.

Re: got an issue with my boost

thats just the funny thing it doesn't make it even close to 15 man more round 10 and no engine light of any kind

Re: got an issue with my boost

Plugs? My down pipe burned through one of my wires one time and did what you are talking about. It started and idled fine. No power and jerky acceleration. Some back firing. A bad plug, wire, ignition, put the plug wire on the wrong spark plug. I don’t know I’m just grasping now. Where do you live? If you live in MN or WI I could help you.

Re: got an issue with my boost

well actually I live in canada and yes your hitting the ball on what I am talking about when the mechanic checked the truck out he told us the 3 wires right beside the downpipe were not working so I have a new set of wires comming and boot protectors man I can tell ya one thing though these trucks are VERY picky as to what parts they like. btw thnx for the offer to help me I appreciate all the input I have gotten here so far.

Re: got an issue with my boost

You got that right about them being picky. I still do not understand why people would use them as daily drivers. Mine has 39,000 original miles and I’m not comfortable driving it long distances. I know it could make it but there is always that question in the back of my mind. "Is something going to break?" It’s not like jumping in my Toyota Camry and being worry free about reliability. Sy/Tys are great toys though. I know there is a lot of people that disagree with me and that’s fine.
I’m glad you got things figured out. It sucks wondering "what’s gone wrong now."

14.7psi > = ECU cutout

read the codes

get Data Master -

first stop syty servicing before wasting time on anything else.

Good luck!

Re: got an issue with my boost

truck is fixed changed out all the ignition components and she runs great the new wires are MSD and so is the coil Blaster I believe and wow what a difference from the stock setup thnx everyone who gave me their input the old coil had gotten so bad that the truck didn't even start and I had it parked for a couple days waiting for new parts but now it's great.
