Goal for next year

Just thinking out loud. Was wondering what I might realistically shoot for with a smog legal Cal truck. Current mods below. I'm so darn close to 12 now I've become the brunt of more than a few friendly jokes at the track:rotf: so next year I want to be there with no doubt. I'll show 'em.

3" turbo back exhaust (on order)

Mods thinking about:

Street slicks on the rear (suggestions appreciated)
Battle bars

With the 3" and keeping the rears hooked I hope to be there.

Maybe code 59 chip

Re: Goal for next year

looking at solid 12's?? you should be in the 12's with the exhaust and added traction. not shure how solid that would be.Ever thought about rebuilding/upgrading the stock turbo. I can see the alky working good for your iat's. You are leaving with lots of boost. Traction looks to be keeping you from lower 60's. what setting is your alky set to?

Re: Goal for next year

Since you and me Don are on about the same mission, which is way ahead of Gary :D this would be good for us both.

One thing to consider would be what I am looking into is having all the exhaust ceramic coated to keep the temps under control. I mean if you have part of it off anyway. I called around today and got a price of $225 to ceramic coat both manifolds, the crossover tube, exhaust housing on the turbo, and the downpipe. Seemed like a really good deal to me, since I've heard this will drop temps by about 20%, and 1,400* - 20% = way better, or 1,120*

Are you still running the stock air box? I'm definitely looking into some kind of CAI setup.
I don't know if you have your battery moved or not.

You might keep your eye out for some 50# injectors, i'm just going off what you have in your sig. so you may very well have them.

I think your going in a very good direction with the drag radials and battle bars, though up some more ideas of what you think we could do.

Re: Goal for next year

Not sure how to answer the settings question. Turnon is all the way left. Initial is maybe 1/3, pump gain is 10:00 o'clock. Is that what you looking for? If I bring up the turnon I start getting knock in the first part of the run. You can literally see it (the knock) taper off as the run progresses.

Re: Goal for next year

I am getting a little more KR then I would like to see. not sure if its too much or not enough alky. I left everything stock settings and just adjust the knob on the controler. My light turns red @ 5psi and I cant tell when it sprays. Its suposed to turn green when it sprays but it only turns green when I realy jump on it for a long time or I turn the knob all the way clockwise?

Re: Goal for next year

I suppose. I know others have done it. Remember my Sy is the only one I've ever driven. It seems to me that it likes to knock. I've done the TDC check. To get my truck to run the 1/4 without knock it likes octane, alky and -2* spark. I'll be the first to admit that I'm no expert on tuning, far from it. I could easily have something bassackwards. In fact one thing I do plan on next year is to have someone who really knows look at the truck, and yes I'll pay them. I just need to find them.:rotf:

Re: Goal for next year

it took out some KR when I did that a while back. I never set it back to 0*

You set your timing at -2 degree's?

Like I've said I've done a TDC check but without a degree wheel and some more room it's difficult. Maybe the dampener has slipped that munch, I don't know. What I do know is the truck has much less knock at 2* retard. Beats pushing a rod out the side.:)

Hey with these trucks whatever works, I almost wonder how accurate the pointer is to begin with? You could very well be at 0* and the pointer is off.

Thanks Don. I am getting some KR and the truck is sputtering wot. 3/4 throttle it runs strong. I guess I am spraying to much. I will turn down the turnon and see if that helps. is the pump gain the knob next to the test button?

I had the same issue, WOT miss. I found the cure to be a combination of reducing fuel pressure and adjusting the gain. I believe the WOT miss was caused by too rich a mixture.
