Ok been posting trying to pass SMOG and cant. Plan on having stock injs cleaned and tested but till then I need to pass smog.I run 42# injectors and have a used lucas 38# set also plus the stock bad ones(fuel in oil) so others are to big to pass with. Well I just looked thru my spare parts and found a set of GN inj., would these work?
Typhoon:
Bosch# 0 280 150 756 --- 30.55#@43.5#PSI and 32#@45#PSI

GN :
Bosch# 0 280 150 218 -- 29.20#@43.5#PSI and 29.70#@45#PSI

Full details of them on this page:
http://users.erols.com/srweiss/tableifc.htm#LUCAS

Are they close enough to run to pass emissions ya think? then I can have stocks redone.Need to be smogged by today, so guess ill need a extension.Hope they will work!!! Thanks all!!!

Re: GN injectors in the TY??????????

have you tried all the other tricks?

oem 195* thermostat
unplug the IC pump
lower your fuel pressure
drive it an hour or so right before the test to get that cat frying hot

I used ot have to struggle to pass emissions on an awd smog dyno and they jsut changed it here so that only OBD2 and newer have to pass emissions now.
woo hoo.
First time I've had legal plates in 5 years now. lol

Re: GN injectors in the TY??????????

HC's at idle, Gross polluter is 220 im at 744. Burns VERY CLEAN at 2500RPM Test!!!

I did put the 195 in andstock FPR,2 BAR MAP,EGR,O2 sensor,IC pump fuse pulled,cap&rotor,stock inj(pretty sure leaking down,chip,etc

Luckily only has a 2wheel Dyno so im exempt on the speed test.

After changin it last night I drove it till it was real hot and jumpered the ALDL for closed loop and CEL stayed light most of the time which means rich so Im not gonna test it again yet.

Checked the oil and smelled bad of fuel plus Fuel Pressure drops after a few hrs. to 0psi.So where can it go?? No leaks on engine,Walbro is 18months old and would be leaking back to tank.Regulator holds 15# vaccum and no fuel in hose, SO has to be injectors not closing or cracked(pretty common from what ive read on here). I run the 42s but just need to pass smog. Are these GN injectors close enough to use?? All specks are at link, couldnt post on here.Gotta be injectors.Would that cause "false knock"(now real nock , if its leaking in cyl and pre detonating?Hope for some good news, I could use it....

Off to get a extension for smog registation!!!!Thanks ALL!!!

I dont know if the GN injectors will fit but can you get your hands on some stock injectors? I would change the oil and turn your fuel pressure down a little. Do you have datamaster to monitor the truck while its running? Cali has some strict emissions laws, NJ kinda sux too but when you do your own inspections it dosent matter.

If it's not holding prssure then something's got to be wrong. Did you replace the pulsator with the rubber hose when you did the walbro pump?

Re: GN injectors in the TY??????????

Yeah, I have DM but only know the basics of it.I have stockers but was hoping to passit by deadline. Now I got a extension ill send my stockers out to be built.I did change the Pulsator when I changed the pump.Im hoping its the inj leaking because it does it with stock and AFPR on so only other thing would be the pump allowing it to flow back.???? Might try GN in while stocks get built. Thanks alot all!!!!

If you change injectors, you have to change the chip to match. Period.
Your calibration won't even be close, otherwise.

Put the stock injectors in, and the stock chip. Get it warmed up good, you should be pretty close.

He said it takes hours for the pressure to drop to 0. Well doesnt that sound 100% normal? On my truck the pressure only holds for 15 minutes or so.

what he said. Using a stock chip with a larger injector only makes the problem even worse. Our trucks are speed density, not mass air so the computer can not correct for larger injectors. It sends out a pulsewidth number which is set in the chip program. That number when applied to a 42lb vs 30lb injector will put more fuel in the engine. Lowering the fuel pressure will help, but probably not enough.

The fuel pressure only matter when the vehicle is running. As long as it hold pressure under driving conditions you have nothing to worry about.

don't be surprised if the injectors are good and the fp reg bladder is leaking

happened to me and the 2 yr old kenne bell bladder went to shit-pull your fp line to smell for gas

Re: GN injectors in the TY??????????

It doesnt matter if the injectors are perfect, if you are controlling them with a stock chip or chip programmed for anything other then those injectors you are essentially doing the same thing as turning up the fuel pressure to 80psi on a stock setup.

Both the ATR and KB chips programmed for the 42# injectors were known to actually slow trucks down. They ran horribly. Now if you have a custom tune for the 42's then thats a different story.

Re: GN injectors in the TY??????????

As was posted earlier, check your fuel pressure regulator for a leaking diaphragm. Try pulling the vacuum line off the top of the regulator. If you see fuel in the line, or it smells like gas, the diaphragm is leaking and needs to be replaced -- a leaky diaphragm will allow gas to be pulled through the vacuum line into the intake manifold, making the truck run rich at idle (when the vacuum is very high).
