Anyone know the GM part # for the trans pan that is 1" deeper than stock?

Tried to search around, no luck....unless I missed it.

you can get it with and without drain plug. I always find the drain handy except in the case of the GM pand where they are always so tight you cant get them out.

The deep pan is easy.

When you find a PN for a filter that has a longer neck that fits in our pump let me known please...

Whats everyone using that runs the Derale or B&M deep pans? If I recall, the filter kit at autozone asks if you have a deep or standard pan. Its been awhile since I bought a kit, so dont quote me.

Derale is deeper but hte filter sits on top of the cooling tubes so it uses the stock filter.
TCI used to use a filter extension that I thought was kind of hoaky but the TCI cast alum pan is the shiznit.

Yep:

"Cast TCI transmission pan, holds two additional quarts. Filter is supported by the four pins cast in the bottom of the pan. Front of pan *may* have to be trimmed to clear TC inspection plate (mine did)."

That TCI piece above looks stout... almost overkill

I'll call GM tomorrow and ask about the pan and see what they say about what filter # needs to be used according to their files. Guess I'll buy a kit from autozone too and see whats up.

Is there a truck that came factory with the 700 and deep pan? Might help in doing some cross reference.

Letting the stock filter hang free in the deep pan makes no sense. Plus it is supposed to sit on the pan to keep it in the pump. I would be concerned that it could fall out, if just left hanging there in the sloshing fluid.
Who has suggested letting the stock filter hang free? Like they already stated, the Derale pan has cooling tubes that provide support, and the TCI pan has supports cast into it. So both deep pans provide support for the filter.

I'm sure a bunch of "experts" will come back with "been this way in my truck for years. No issues". Where's the gain, if the pick-up isn't lowered into the deeper sump?? Where's the gain when a boost-launch jerks the filter out of the pump, the trans looses pressure, and the engine over-revs instantaneously and bends a bunch of valve train parts??
Count me as one of those guys with no issues for 5 years now, 700R4 with Derale pan. Mine has been raced hard as hell. Never had a problem with the filter.

The problem I have with the Derale pan is the rear cooling tubes butt up against the trans crossmember, blocking access to the 13mm pan bolts. Even after grinding them down, access is still very difficult. Getting the pan out becomes a job requiring the agility like building a Ship in a Bottle, like so many jobs on these trucks.....

I ordered in a WIX 58847 to be here tomorrow. Will check the diameter of the neck as this is the unpublished "deep filter kit" for 60E apps.

Fingers crossed....

Re: GM Part# for trans pan

OK Dave I re-read it and you're right. By the time I got to the bottom I was thinking about the Derale and TCI and forgot about the GM pan which nobody posted images of. Sorry for the mix-up.

The Derale pan is deeper and the fact that by your own admission the 1999 Tahoe featured a deep pan, suggests that GM agrees with the theory that increased fluid capacity can extend transmission life.

I clean the inside of my Derale pan with a thorough solvent cleaning in the parts washer followed by a heavy blast of shop air. It comes out spotless, but I can see your concern.

Is there REALLY a difference between the deep pans and the stock pans? I guess we won't know for sure unless someone does a back to back scientific comparison.

I have yet to call the dealer, been busy with work.

Still would like to find out any truck using a deep pan from factory, might help the guy behind the counter search a bit easier.

Re: GM Part# for trans pan

The full size 88+ pick ups had the one quart larger pans and longer filters. I got one off my dad's truck and put it on my old Syclone. It's a "5 quart change" instead of a "4 quart" according to him.

Re: GM Part# for trans pan

I can definitely confirm that the deep pan was available and factory implemented prior to 1999. Our 1995 K1500 (which I picked up new at the dealer) came with a deep pan.

On the plus side, he pointed out that my two DD's both have 1993 4L60E in them. The GM deep pan will fit, and the filter that goes with that pan will ALSO fit.

So there is a filter that will adapt to changing out to the GM deep pan?

Re: GM Part# for trans pan

Well, the WIX 58847 didn't pan out. According to internal documentation, it appears to be a scheduled supercession # for the 58607. It was only fractionally taller, with a barely larger diameter tube, and didn't have the seal ridge cast into the neck.

At this point, I'm with Dave....I see no alternative for a deep (non-E) filter kit. Unless someone custom makes one or makes a mod kit for the short filter (either a neck extension or something that can snap into the suction hole on the filter to extend down the extra depth) we're OOL.

Re: GM Part# for trans pan

the "700" / "4L60" non electronic never had a deep pan from GM and thus never got a long neck filter.

all the long filter are for the "E"'s.

I do remeber a company that supplied a extension tube with their deeper pans to put the filter back in the bottom as it is stock. I think it was about a 1" alum tube that had the same gasket as a stock filter and slide into the pump and then your filter slipped into it.

I'm one of those who has run the deep pan and stock filter for 100k miles and more on multiple trannies and not a problem yet. I've felt the need for a proper fix so I put a few support legs in the deep pan so tha it doesnt hang down.

with the fluid sloshing around and such there really isnt any differance in tem between the top and bottom of the pan.

HTH's you some.
