You can measure the U-joint or take it with you but you should be able to get it at your local parts store.

Easy enough, just be careful on reassembly that you don't end up with one of the needles at the bottom of the cap. It will make you think you have a problem when you don't.

Re: Gilbert Propshaft U Joints replacement

I'd try Napa first. I've had trouble with 'discount' chains in the past. If their computer doesn't list it for your vehicle, it doesn't exist. This has happened to me a several times, but it happened on a U-joint specifically once. Read on if you want the story......

My brother was driving one of my dad's farm pickups, helping me on a job out of town. One cold afternoon the rear U-joint went out, so we hopped off to the nearest parts place to get a replacement. I answered all the questions about the truck and they gave me a box with a u-joint in it. We went back and as I tried to put the joint in the driveshaft I realized this was not the right u-joint. The caps were way too small. Now I had the old one out so we took it with us, back to the store. They tried everything they could find in their computer and nothing matched our old joint. They told me that someone must have changed the driveshaft in the past. I informed them that my dad bought the truck brand new(special ordered it, in fact) and that this was probably the original u-joint. And I know for certain that the driveshaft has never been altered or changed. The guy just looked at me like you would look at Bill Clinton if he told you that he "never had sexual relations with that woman...." So we got our money back and went down the road a little farther to Napa. I layed the u-joint on the counter and the guy didn't say a word. He took a pair of calipers from behind the counter and measured the joint. Then he went to the back and returned with the right part. And it was cheaper too! All the way back to the truck I asked myself why I didnt' go to Napa in the first place. You can bet I do now!

the gilbert uses upgraded joints or HD joints so they aren't going to be listed under the vehicle. just take them to oreilly bc they use moog and they can match them up

The front U Joint is from a 4x4 S-10's front driveshaft.
