gilbert propshaft question

ok...this might sound stupid but i was thinking about making my own front drive shaft. so im looking for a pic with a gilbert and a stock side-by-side, so i can compare them and get ideas.

then i fiind this pic....http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=43756

so..im like sweet. thats what i was loooking for.

then while im looking at the gilbert shaft in the pic. i notice they seem to use the same end, from a stock shaft. (where the bolts go through on i think the transfercase end).
ok....this what i dont get. on the pic i see you can bolt the one end of the gilbert on, cause of the stock end. the other end looks like it wouldnt be big enough to bolt on. llike the bolt-on yoke part isnt big enough to bolt into the stock holes. i really hope this makes sence. just look at the pic in the link and tell me how theone end bolts on.

god..im going crazy..lol

I think what you are seeing is the difference on how the gilbert mounts in the front diff. When you install the gilbert you will change out the flange on the input to the front diff so it is a spline slip instead of bolting to a flange

Correct. A 32MM socket and an impact gun work great for removing the nut that holds the old mounting flange to the front differential. This is done AFTER the orientation of the pinion nut to the pinion shaft has been marked and the number of exposed threads have been counted. This is to assure that the crush collar is not damaged when the yoke that replaces the front mounting flange is installed. It is recommended to replace the front pinion seal when doing this as some individuals have experienced minor leaks after the install if it was not replaced.

in my pic the flange is still mounted on the front diff. The flange is on the gilbert. You need a 32mm socket (I think) to remove the nut to hold the flange. I did not have the socket at the time I took the pic. here is one with the flange on it if that helps.

It is a 32MM because the only reason that I have that socket in my toolbox is because I bought it *just* to remove the stock propshaft flange four years ago.

Yeah I checked I have the same socket. In fact it is still on my impact gun.

Everything you need besides bolts comes with the gilbert.

Unless you are looking for a stock replacement then you will have to get that from a junkyard or board memeber
