well ive got a 94 blazer with a lil over 115k on it and ive been thinkin about selling that to get a typhoon. only thing im worried about is if i get a ty, im gonna have double the headache i already have with the sy.
then again that would be awesome to only be 24 and own my 2 dream trucks and walk out to the driveway in the morning and go hmmm which shall i drive today?

so lets hear some opinions... get a ty? or put money into the sy and make it faster?

Depends on how deep your pockets are.I'd call up your insurance agent and see what the rates would be for full coverage on 2 trucks. That alone might change your mind.

Think, double headache, daily driver gonna be both. A daily headache. My isurance is cheap, I pay less than $100 a month for full coverage on Sy and regular coverage on Xr4ti.

Nothing looks better than having one of each in the garage. Get a Ty. You can always get the Sy in the 11s later.

I can't make your decision for you, but I wouldn't use both in the same capacity. Ie I wouldn't use both as daily driver rotating them each day. Also I wouldn't modify both them to run 11's, you will have twice the headache.

well i went and looked at a couple tys today, both of which were beat to hell and back... ahhh this reminds me of when i was lookiing for a ty the first time and ended uo settling on my sy...

so many of these trucks are just destroyed or just not taken care of... so i think for now im gonna hold off on the ty idea, and maybe dump a few bucks into the ol' syclone... it needs some love. maybe an alky kit, ext. wastegate, or maybe some new wheels?

anyone have some other good perf. mod ideas? besides a new turbo :x yeah i know minor mods arent gonna get me 11's but then again i cant take out a loan on a new turbo.

so far iits pretty stock with the following mods: afpr, walbro, jabsco, 160*, ultimate, tranny cooler, sway bar, koni's, KB cold air kit, and a BOV. maybe gut the cat? i just smogged it so i wont have to worry bout that for a couple years.

It's expensive (though nowhere near the cost of a Ty), but a PTE turbo is an all-in-one solution. Better turbo, better wastegate, and a downpipe with a dump. If you gut the cat now, you'll probably have overboost issues and need to modify the stock wastegate setup, or install an external. The stock setup can barely control itself. When you lessen the backpressure on the turbo, it'll only get worse (since the wastegate will still be facing the same restrictions).

How fast are you now? You might be able to get some more out of it with tuning, though that's not a bolt-on by any means...

the last time i went to the track i ran 13.4@98 w/ 1.76 60' on 101oct pump gas. even then it was about 105* out, and my truck couldve used a lil more tuning...

ive thought about getting the pte52 setup, but i read it doesnt really work well unless you get a higher stall converter?

My stock (drop-in K&N, hotwired Jabsco with rubber hoses, Walbro with stock FPR, EGR vac line unplugged) Sy with 124k ran 13.8 at 97.91 (need to work on those launches). There are Sy's with mods similar to yours running low to mid 12s. I realize the Ty is heavier, but you should be able to get it faster without any more parts. Adam A. looks like he's heading for 11's with only a PTE44, which I understand to be pretty close to stock...

I've considered (well, more "dreamed" I guess) this, but if I'm going through the trouble of a turbo swap, I think I'd want more than a 44. Then you get into the whole "I've gone this far, so I might as well go one more step" thing, which is very bad for the checkbook and wife-relations...

If you get an external wastegate with a base spring pressure the same as your stock setup's base boost, you can simply move the vac line from the stock actuator to the external. It's obviously not the best boost control setup in the world, but I'm thinking I might do that soon. You retain the ECM control of boost for when you need to cut back for safety, but you get rid of the restricted stock wastegate so you have solid boost levels. Tim H. had Al Dustan put one on his truck like this and said it works great. You get much better boost control (even if you upgrade your turbo later) for relatively cheap (compared to a PTE setup) without too much hassle. Just put the external on the crossover, tack or wire the stocker shut, and move the vac line.

thanks for the ideas!

well my tax return was bigger than i thought! ive been lookin at the PTE setup for a lil while now... now if i were to go ahead with say the PTE 52 setup... id most likely have to upgrade to a higher stall, 50#injectors, and upgrade my ultimate... plus with a bigger turbo, 91oct aint gonna cut it, so probably get an alky kit as well... anything else im missing? besides a shit load of tuning
