Re: gauging interest

i had a talk with the parents and i told them that i will continue to work on it to get it running but i WILL put it up for sale when i get it out of my dads shop. the truck has become a bottomless money pit, i hate working on it, i hate seeing it at my dads shop, i have lost interst in racing it, if i finish it i'm 100%sure i will spend more money on it which i don't want to do. i just want to walk away from the truck. this isn't a spontaneous decision either, i given it a lot of thought, i don't enjoy it anymore. i'm just trying to be honest.

Re: gauging interest

I guess I should feel lucky because I don't seem to loose interest in my project vehicals very easy. Shoot Branden my truck is as far apart as yours and when it's back together it wont be nearly as fast, but I can still picture the end result and the rush of that first launch!!! The first Honduh car with a hudge wing that I just crush, ohhh I can't wait, it just gets me so pumped up!!!!

Shoot you can't be that far away, what are you stuck on that's getting you frustrated?? I mean you're so close, come on man!!!

Re: gauging interest

i appreciate all the kind comments, thanks guys. if i can get rid of it to pay off my loan and my parents, this puts me in a poistion to attack my credit card debt and get rid of it faster. then i can move out and start a new part of my life, take into account my past and become a wiser man from it. my bump in pay at my job will definately help me.

Re: gauging interest

Damnnnnn.......I thought this was some kind of joke from reading a little of this post on the first page. Why? Why? Why? Debt is part of life, trust me. I'm only 20 and I'm learning real fast  Especially while in college. Any Gary was right, I would love to get my hands on this....lol....Just in a year or two. I think most of this is you getting frustrated with it and wanting to get it out of your dad's shop. With this new raise I'm sure you're going to be buying a house or renting an apartment with a garage. So why not hold onto it and store it there? Just leave it there and work on it whenever and not feel pressured as to when you need to get it finished. Like other guys are saying too, the longer you hold onto it the more it will be worth. Especially with the mileage you got. Thinking about getting 20K and paying off bills/credit cards/parents always sounds good, but I'm sure there's other alternatives. You're making bank right now as is(not only per hour, but the amount of hours you put in) I'm sure you can make everything work out. You don't want to regret letting this one go when you get older. I regret ever selling my first car(1976 Corvette stingray) It was in decent condition, but I was always out wrenching on it and getting pissed. Then I left for college and never got to drive it, so I sold it and bought a truck I could bring up to college with me. Now that I look back I wish I would have took on a small payment for a truck and held on to it. But such is life. Alright, this is getting too long. Fix your sh*t, giggle like a little school girl on that first mean @$$ launch, and don't worry about dept :rotf: It will all settle in the end and things will work out :squint:

Re: gauging interest

We all just dont want to see you let it go. I spent hundreds of hours and tons of money on my 57 bel air. when i separated from my wife for a year I had to sell it. Thats where a lot of bills came from. morgage and hotel payments killed me.I had to sell it. It was in my family for 40 years. Sucked. Thats how I got my Sy now.
If you lost interest then its gone. Dont sell because you are pissed on the problems you are having with it. We all have been there. I too thought about selling my truck. I enjoy working on it, but I dont work on cars for a living. I dont like doing electrical at my own house so I know where you are comming from. I just wish you were selling it a year ago because I would be rolling in a nice white TY. Whatever you do branden please think about it and do what is best for you. L8

Don't want to sound critical but that is exactly why most people never get what they really want.....and IF they do, they can never enjoy it because they are dumping $$$ hand over fist to make payments, including insurance and interest. I don't owe anyone anything and haven't since I was 22 and the freedom it gives me to pay cash when I want for what I want opens up a lot of doors I otherwise would not have ventured through. We all work way too hard for what we make to pay most of it back out to someone else who doesn't work and feeds off people that are strapped in debt. P.S. - In keeping with the thread, I agree with James Thomas.....a 20K sale for a non-running Typhoon is a bridge too far but all the best in your pursuit to liquidate it. I'd be interested if you were closer and the Ty was more reasonably priced (IMO).

Perfectly stated. IMO if you have to finance something or put it on your credit card then you can't afford it and shouldn't be buying it.

If you want to get back some of the money you have invested in this truck then I would take it all apart and sell the performance parts individually.

Re: gauging interest

branden don't take this the wrong way...please..but if you have 50k in this truck and you think you can't afford it....wait till you buy a 500-750k house, homeowners insurance...taxes,utility bills etc...and don't think you just buy a house and that's it... those damn things always need something..or you always want to change something. the carpet is not what you like anymore, you want diff paint,etc...

if you are making 30 bills an hour and seem to be over your head while you still live at home then you will be overwhelmed here shortly.

and you will most definately hate selling the truck later in life. once you buy that house and become very much in debt...you will look at what you spent on that truck as chump change.

my story is like most of the other guys on here. i've been where you are..sold the first car i ever rebuilt/loved..lost my ass and now i hate ever selling it.

just want you to know we are all pulling for you to make the best of this if you can.i would hate to see you give up something you have worked soo hard to have.

Brandon, being 39 years old and a master technician, I have to say I can certainly understand where you are coming from. So you have no regrets (and people will probably look down on me for saying this) why not keep the bulk of your investment, buy a used powertrian and put it in your ty, and sell the vehicle at a fair price to get out. In the future when you end up looking at another typhoon or syclone, you will be ahead of the game. Good luck, I hope you will continue to contribute to this forum no matter what happens. Mike
