Fuel pressure problems

I could use help with this fuel pressure issue.
I bought this syclone that wouldn't run right. It choked and ran like crap in the higher rpms. My mechanic concluded that it had enough fuel pressure but not enough volume. So he put a new fuel pump on from
GM that was supposed to be for the syclone. He hacked my stock fuel line and put in a new filter with a rubber splice. It seemed to run ok but acrted like it was getting too much fuel and pinged alot. Well it blew that line several times so I installed flared hard copper line. It resolved the blown line, but yesterday I started it and it smelled like gas. I tried to start it later and it acted like it was flooded. I noticed gas running out of the tail pipe. I went out this morning and tried to start it but the motor is locked up. Probably trying to compress cylinders full of gas. What have I done, wrecked my fuel regulator? Wrong fuel pump? Any help would be appreciated.

Remove the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator and see if it has gas in it. If the diaphragm in the regulator fails, you suck gas into the engine through this line. Let me know if you want a stock regulator. I probably have one or 2 laying around.

I also suggest you use steel instead of copper for your fuel line.

check out the diaphram in the FPR. Sounds like it's torn or has a hole in it letting gas shoot right into the plentum via vac lines.

Engine is hydrolocked. You will have to remove all the plugs and crank the engine to get rid of the liquid fuel. First, unplug the coil's primary connector so you have no spark. Best to do this outside with a fire extinguisher close by.

Also, change the oil. The crankcase will have a considerable amount of fuel in it.

And, get rid of the copper fuel line. It will eventually 'work harden' from vibration and crack - probably at the flare. Use a piece of double flared steel line obtainable from your local parts store.

Hey thanks guys. It was the fuel pressure regulator as you suspected.
