Fuel line removal

Can the fuel lines be removed? I've got a weird issue where injector noise is being transmitted into the cab. I think (hope) I can reposition them a bit and hopefully not have to take them out. Obviously one, presumably the pressure line, the return has a hose, is up against the tunnel somewhere.

Thanks.

Maybe you can take a larger rubber hose and slide it over the fuel line. It would stop the metal to metal contact. I did that to clear a KR issue.

Pretty sure they are solid metal lines from the rear axle forward. I'd do what Phil said, and check the DP heat shield on the firewall, and the cat heat shield.

Re: Fuel line removal

Fuel lines are on the other side from the DP and Cat. Anyway, took the upper intake off, removed the dist. And re-situated the lines. They did seem bound up on something. The line support at the T-case fits now also. Hmmm. I'm quite sure it's fixed but it will be tomorrow at least before I can reassemble and test it.

Thanks

Re: Fuel line removal

Haven't actually driven it but I think it's fixed. The lines bound up like I said. While apart I figured out what was wrong with my oil pressure ga. (sender) Also found a vac leak. The small line that goes to the canister had come off. I'm surprised I didn't hear it.

I need to do the same thing Don... I've got a pretty good racket in the cab from the lines. I tried stuffing rubber tubing down and around them when I swapped dizzies but it didn't help much, so will be looking at ripping things apart. Was it evident where they were hitting (rub marks)?

Weeeelll once they disappear either down across the bell-housing or from t-case on up they're pretty much invisible. I think you might be able to see them failrly well IF you remove the front driveshat AND the breace that runs from the t-case to the bell-housing. That -should- give you much better access. At least IMHO.

Once mine became unbound as-it-were I could wiggle them around quite a bit. I secured the lines at the t-case. They now lined up where before they didn't . If I look at the manual there three supports. One on the side of the trans, one on the back of the motor and the one at the rear. I also made sure that the pressure line into the rail went in without binding or wanting to go askew.

I might eventually pull the drive-shaft and that brace but not this time. Unless it still rattles of course.

Re: Fuel line removal

Have you guys read the fsm? It talk about this issue... The tic, boiling fuel... Etc.

Re: Fuel line removal

Don't know about the boiling fuel. The tic is the injectors themselves just being loud as I understand. Hard to describe the noise I had. Best I could come up with was it sounded like a little air compressor running under the dash. Couldn't hear it anywhere except in the cab. It was directly related to engine RPM. I diagnosed it by getting out my stethoscope and probing. All normal noises until I touched the FPR, bingo.
