Be mindful, I've known two people that have them that have had rear axle issues.
Apparently there's a TSB out on it.

they are 2 totally different feeling trucks. The tbss is well, a big ass trail blazer with alot of torque. I've driven them and they are nice, much niver than a typhoon for just everyday comfort; stereo is better, sound deadning is better, everything like that. The ls series can be built to make power much safer, and you can get one into the 13's without really doing much. I will say that anything byond that a ty would prolly be better/cheaper, and if you wanted to do anything with turning I would take a ty hands down.

TBSS is prob going to be more reliable then a ty for sure. They are heavy though and despite a good ls engine they are still 14 second trucks. A good converter and a tune( mainly to get rid of TQ management ) they get in the 13's. Any faster and you will need a good amount of work. A simple cam upgrade isn't gonna cut it on a big truck like those. I have helped build a few of these already and you can get them down in the 11's with a smart budget build but is tougher then one might think.
Going from a evo to a tbss is gonna feel like your driving a tank. Not sure how much you got for the evo but you could prob pick up a used tbss and drop a new cam and heads or have the stock ones ported and maybe 150 shot and the truck will be faster then the evo was and still more reliable then a ty will and not have to use alky kit or worry about monitoring KR all the time either. Once you turn off the bottle you just drive around on 91 octane with 450 or so HP. Or you can save up and turbo or s/c the tbss and still have some fun.

I love my TBSS. It is big and sure does make a lot of racket for how fast you are going, but it is fun. Every type of car has its ups and downs. Mine spent nearly two months at the dealer getting a new motor under warranty. Turns out the so-called piston slap was actually the motor straining to hold itself together. And contrary to what most of you are thinking, I was NOT driving it at the time it sent the 4 and 5 rod/piston through the side of the block/pan. But then again, most times when I drive it, an outsider may think that I had recently stolen it. Thankfully the wife was driving when it sploded, that way I don't have to hear about it.

I'm wanting this to be a comfy DD with awd and some speed, so I'm leaning to the TBSS, with getting a Ty down the road to be a tinkerer/garage queen. Wife is leaning this way too (my final decision, obviously), mostly because she hears how often TyTillIDie's is down...

I had a TBSS for almost 2 years and it was a nice ride, pulls through the snow, and was comfy, heated seats were nice, and pulled like hell in 2nd. Wont launch worth crap with the torque management though...
I always wanted to drive one of the jeep str8's but they were too pricey...

I've ridden in a buddies, and I agree completely. Is it the torque management killing it off the line, or the converter? He has a tune on his, and I can't imaging they would leave the torque management in (unless his is quicker than a stock one, and I'm going to be really surprised on my first test drive)
