Front suspension question

I recently put new wheels on my Syclone... Well, when the guys at Les Schwab put the front wheels on, they noticed that the passenger side wheel sticks out almost a half inch farther than the driver side. I know that the previous owner hit a curb or something by the giant flat spots on the outside rim of the old wheels. The Les Schwab guys said they couldn't find any damaged components. Any ideas?

Re: Front suspension question

Do your new wheels all have the same offset? Some vette wheels and the stock syty wheels had different offsets front and rear. If a wheel got put on the wrong end of the truck, you'd get your issue.

A collision could bend the frame rails and it probably wouldn't be visible to the naked eye. Before you bust out a tape measure or head to a collision/frame shop, I'd double check to make sure your wheels have the same offset and/or staggers are on correct corners. :2cents: Good luck.

yeah that sounds no good, I'd definitely take it into a body/frame collision repair center asap

Re: Front suspension question

Could just be the alignment (camber) that has slipped on one side. This often gives the impression that the wheel sticks out more on one side, when viewed from the top.
Check the fasteners are tight on the upper control arms. Or it may be that the caster/camberit has just not been set right.

Re: Front suspension question

mine is the same on one side as well but it is on the rear. The one side(tire ) sits out about 3/4" off an inch on the drivers side. This tire is at 90 degrees straight up and down. The top of the passenger tire is tucked just under the cladding and sits at 85 degrees, inward. As well, the drivers side gap between the top of the tire and bottom of the elbow cladding sits 1" higher than the passengers side. The truck has never been hit in the rear or rear sides.I do still have the factory rear air suspension setup and the typhoon has about 27000 miles on it.The tires are new BFG comp t/a sports with 1000 miles?Any ideas?

yep, same offset all around. the guys at Les Schwab even swapped wheels from side to side with the same result. I guess the shop is the next stop...

Re: Front suspension question

I see your name includes number 747, is this perhaps the # of your truck? If so I know some info about it.

Re: Front suspension question

Any update here? I was just wondering if this was the truck that was local to me. This is assuming the 747 in your name is the production number of your truck. If so I can give you some info. on this truck.

No info on his truck, but I recently noticed my Sy is the same way. Same wheels all around the truck , so I doubt it's a wheel-offset issue. The truck might've had frame damage in the past, but everything up there looks untouched as far as I can tell. Weird. Don't recall noticing anything odd about my Typhoon while I had it.

Re: Front suspension question

That's what i dislike the most of my sy. The driver sides sticks out more that the passenger side. Alignment checked. The only thing i can think of is unbolting the cab and re-aligning done by a shop.

Re: Front suspension question

I have the same issue. The only thing I could come up with is the cab is out of alignment like mentioned above. I did coilovers and had it aligned so I know that isn't the problem. It seems like a few of these trucks have the problem so it had to be an assembly flaw. Excellent.....

Re: Front suspension question

I would put money on the body being slightly out of alignment. I know on my S10 it took me some playing to get everything lined up so that everything looks right. Start undoing body mounts and get some friends to help line everything up.

Sorry it took so long to reply, I kinda fell off of the face of the earth for a bit. My Sy is #378. The 747 is just a random number i like to use.

Re: Front suspension question

So did you ever figure out this issue.. Was the body just not set straight on the frame?

Re: Front suspension question

I remember years ago Gary Shanock talking about this. I'm fuzzy, but I think he said that it's the design of the front end with the passenger side axle shaft being longer or something, but it's common.
