Front Diff. MOUNT bushings.

The aft lower passenger one is going bad and clunking. If the diff has to be removed just to replace it, I may as well change 'em all. Anyone change these and are they press-in/press-out like control arm bushings? They look like control arm bushings. (I believe the LMC truck catalog shows the half-shaft bushings which I DON'T need.) Are there part numbers for these diff mount bushings or maybe Poly ones? TIA

Re: Front Diff. MOUNT bushings.

Can you post them here? I may need to pick up some of these bushings as well.

Thanks,

Re: Front Diff. MOUNT bushings.

Pas side is on a support that can be removed without removing the dif. Drivers side, different story. Pull that support.

Thanks for the tip...I thought I had seen some pics of THAT being independent of the diff. and apparently you confirmed it

I'm ASSuming the ones on the diff are a PIA to change out.

The starter might be in the way for what you want to do. I don't remember. One of the nuts is inside the frame rail. Use a box wrench to go through a hole in the bottom of the frame to get to it. You should at least look at and get a pry bar and test the drivers side bushings as well. And, yes they are more difficult because it would require complete removal of the front dif. which is a PITA. Some folks are better at it than others and I have come to believe some trucks are easier than others also.

Re: Front Diff. MOUNT bushings.

The bracket on the pass side is PN 15656162 that includes the two bushings. It can be changed without much fuss.

The bushings for the carrier on the left side is PN 15656163. This bushing also fits the bracket above, but are a real pain to change without destroying the metal bracket.

Mine were so destroyed and stuck in there that they were falling apart trying to press them out. I had to use a torch to get them out. Putting the new bushings in was easy. Then again, I had my diff out.

hey, so one PN will fit all 4 mount locations or more like two of each part number for their respective sides (2 x PN 15656162 for upper/ lower passenger side & 2 x PN 15656163 for upper/lower drivers side) will do?

Which bracket "without destroying the metal bracket" do ya mean?

6162 is the metal bracket on the pass side, with 2 bushings installed.

6163 is the bushing that is used in 4 locations: 2 in the bracket on pass side, 2 in diff on drivers side.

I would buy (1) 15656162 (bracket w/ bushing) for the pass side, and (2) 15656163 (bushing only) for the drivers side.

The 15566162 metal bracket. If this PN is still available, just buy it (1 needed. Comes with bushings).

Re: Front Diff. MOUNT bushings.

Energy suspension carries poly bushings.
They don’t come with the metal shells (just like the upper control arms) so hand on to those.

Re: Front Diff. MOUNT bushings.

Yes it is. I've used this number many times to order these bushings. Most recently about 3 months ago. I just went out to the shop and looked at the box that I purchased from GM. Clear as day.. And no, my dyslexia didn't mess the number up. 15656163.

-Driver side carrier bushings are gm# 26022006 (x2)
I'm going to replace with Energy Suspension # 2017. you will need to reuse the original cap/jacket & pin. so do not cut/destroy when removing. Use a large socket to bang it out of the carrier. U will need to freeze the ES bushing to drill out a larger sleeve hole.

-Passenger side bushings GM# 15656163 (x2).
save your money and reuse the bracket holder. Hammer out the old one with a socket as well.I don't have an ES part number to use.

-pic details...driver side left & passenger on the right.

Re: Front Diff. MOUNT bushings.

when I did mine I grabbed a block of dry ice to freeze the new bushings and just torched the old bushings out, Like mentioned above you need the sleeves from the GM bushings, a little heat and penetrating oil and they will pop right out a brass hammer is your friend
