Re: front diff leaking....now with pic!!!!!

That was a messy ordeal; it took me about two hours to get that original red RTV off of the cover and diff case. Everything is super clean now, including the axle flange, bolts, etc. I haven't decided which Permatex sealant I should use. I was going to use the Ultra Grey, which is what I used on the intake manifold at the front and rear, but then I found their "Anaerobic Gasket Maker" product. Is this stuff suitable for the driver's side cover?

Other's have used Permatex Black RTV with success, but I thought the service manual called for an "anaerobic" sealer/gasket?

Re: front diff leaking....now with pic!!!!!

I never followed up on this old thread, but I wanted to post what the fix was to help others. I ended up ordering a new GM axle seal and used Permatex Ultra Gray RTV. Almost a year later, the front diff is still bone dry...not a leak, anywhere! I don't have the part number for the axle seal handy, but if you e-mail customer service at http://gmpartsdirect.com, they will look it up for you. Just provide your VIN and a detailed description of the part you need.
