Re: Front and Rear LS1 Brakes

Do you have to use the front spindles to make the fronts work?

Im intersted in them , but wouldnt need the rotors and they probably wouldn't be worth the cost to ship being so heavy.

How much would shipping be to 38138

Front spindles need to be modified to make this brake set up work... its not a bolt on and go mod.

The syty spindles need to be modified , or the F body spindles need to be used and modified?
I started a thread trying to compose a complete list on what all is needed to swap LS1 brakes into our trucks.
No one so far had mentioned spindles.

The syty spindles need to be modified. The f-body one will not fit

On the sonoma gt or 2wd s10 You have to cut the mounting ears off the spindle in the front and then get a bracket to go from the spindle to the caliper bracket, after that you cut the front rotors down to 5.9 in so it would like a newer hub bearing then the ls1 rotor goes over that. After that you just have the hose to mount up. Im not exactly sure how the syty's are but i know its been done.

The back brakes should bolt right up you will just have to pull the axles to do them which isn't hard, because im pretty sure the sgt and syty's have the same rear end. There is a DIY thread on here someone did, I believe you can use the parking brake cables as well by swapping sides or turning them upside down, Im not sure I didn't put them on my truck since its auto.

Pro-tourings10.com has a lot of info and a quick search over there will show you the brackets needed.

The spindles aren't needed to do it, I didn't mean to cause confusion i just wanted to post i had them in case theres was interest.

Im assuming shipping will be 40-50 because obviously brake parts are heavy. Usually Fedex is cheapest for this type of stuff.

On the SyTy's you have to have an adapter bracket like the CBR brackets they used to sell, but are no longer available. I think at one time Renz had these brackets remade, but not sure if he still offers them or not. The rear brakes will bolt up to Ty's with no issues, but on the Sy's you will will have to drill a couple holes in the axle flange, not hard to do.

I don't think it was mentioned because you don't need to buy spindles, but you do have to modify them by cutting the ears off as mentioned. I think everyone didn't count spindles as "parts needed" to do the swap.

RenzFab sells a kit for the front LS1/C5 swap along with complete instructions/pics on how to do it. I am completing the swap in the next few days and I will rewriting the instructions and posting fresh pics soon with the swap to be posted on HowTune.

It was a painless upgrade. Shouldn't take more than a couple of hours for fronts. About the same for rears. Depending on your level of ocd, smoothing the grinds and paint, the project could take a weekend...Jim

Re: Front and Rear LS1 Brakes

I have somebody that is willing to buy just the back brake setup, So if somebody wants just the Front brake setup I may be willing to split it up. Id rather not but if I have a buyer for both I might.

Also if anybody has any SGT parts or performance parts that fit the SGT's I might be interested in some trades.
