It was laying in the back of a blazer (I think someone stashed it there) but the length is too long for a blazer... I tried googling the numbers but nothing came back. Maybe some other experts can chime in and help us figure it out...

It has a sticker that says three rivers with the number 15708722 ...

Re: Found something interesting at the yard today...

I thought so since it was in the GM section. The u-joint end fit a 91 s10 rear end and the yoke end slid right into a GM transfer case so I felt pretty good about it.

Can you tell from the number what it was out of?

WS6 cars had aluminum drive shafts. Very close to right length for a Sy & have the big U-joints.

Yep, I saw one once in a 99 GMC extended cab long bed S10.. Looked like it would work just fine if shortened. Good find.

The ZR2 and full size chevy shafts are much larger diameter.

This shaft has a 4" diameter. I am trying to find out how thick the aluminum is... I guess I will just have to cut it and see...

It was more than just the WS6's. Pretty much all GU5 LS1 Fbodies had them.

GMT 325 is us being a s-series truck, longbed and ex cab are a 2 piece right

wait longbed is 118 WB
EX is 123 so that may have a longer back shaft on it

Re: Found something interesting at the yard today...

GMpartsdirect.com say that the 8 digit # is not a valid GM Part #.

The next question they asked was what vehicle and what part I was looking for.
I told them an aluminum driveshaft with 32 spline yoke on one end and S-Series U joint on the other.
Preferably the same length as a GMC Typhoon drive shaft. Longer is better than shorter.

Haven't heard back. and I doubt I will.

Re: Found something interesting at the yard today...

My '04 Crew cab had a 4" aluminum shaft that was the same length as the driveshaft in my '00 2wd regcab/short bed truck. I was going to swap them, but the NV1500 (4cyl/5spd trans) has a significantly smaller output shaft than the transfer case on my '04. I have read that all extended cab 4wd trucks have the same length shaft as the regcab short bed 2wd trucks.

How that applies to the Sy/Ty world I'm not 100% sure, however thought I would through that out there in case some others are searching for aluminum shafts in local junkyards :D
