Flywheel tooth count...153 or 168...???

Changing my starter noticed my flywheel is pretty hammered.
Needs to be replaced..but without trying to count :roll: ...does anybody know the correct tooth count for the Syclone is it 153 or 168?? I was going to order one from Summit as soon as possible so I can get my Sy back on the road.

Alright, I'm going with 168. I've tried to find some other info and found I should be calling it a flexplate not flywheel and it seems that the Syclones have "the larger" flexplate which is the 168 tooth. Now I just have to decide to go with TCI or B&M.

and spend the extra couple bucks and get yourself the SFI approved flexplate

TCI = Trash Cans Incorporated or so I have been told by some dumb drag racer that likes to turn left at the end of the track and totally smash a car he doesn't even own!!! Although, unlike my truck, his truck at least he gets to make trips down the track so maybe he's not all that dumb after all.

They might be. We have gone through so many flexplates in our race cars, I don't think there was a brand out there we didn't break. Now using a CSR 24 volts starter system. Now the weak point is the starters, not the flexplate.

I had a TCI flexplate that had some kind of coating on it give me a ton of trouble when I first put my truck together... kept working itself loose from the crank, made this horrible noise too. Still on the truck, seems to be doing alright now that I stripped that stuff off it

well after ordering the TCI, I check back on this thread and hear some bad things about it.
I think it should be fine for my application, its better than stock...however I will possibly take off the coating where it bolts up just to make sure. Good Tip jjorgensen!!!

I have used tci for a long time without any problems. If your starter is set right and the flexplate is tight you wont have any problems with it. I believe all theirs are SFI certified.

I dont think you can even buy a non sfi flexplate from any of the common names.

you can allways check out jw. the ultrabell people.

I think everyone but jw all make 168 units for external balance only.

for an internally balanced motor the jw part number is 93000.

This TCI I ordered from Summit is a 168 tooth, SFI approved, 0.035 in thicker than stock, and internal engine balanced.
