first kill with new setup

I was cruzing on the street minding my own buissness. When a RX-8 cuts me off. I get on his ass and I can see him flip me off in his rearview mirror. I give him one back and keep on his ass. He turns right to get on the freeway. The on ramp opens to two lanes. I get over and stomp on it. Within a few seconds I an next to him. The sy is still pulling hard as I pass him. He gets over and tries to pass. I get over too and shut him off. t this point I am going 70+. My exit is the next one up so I get over and get off the freeway. I look over to find him still cussing at me. I just LOL. Man I love this turbo. I dont know what I did that made the biggest difference but my truck pulls hard. I cant imagine what a 10 second truck feels like. BTW I like the rx-8's.

Re: first kill with new setup

it does not happen to often. I have only put 1200 miles in about a year. I usualy pick up my son in it so I dont race it. At night most guys dont want to run with me. Dont know why. only 2 guys I have talked to know what a Sy can do. Most the time its just jerks cutting me off or fighting me for a spot. In my company van I cant do anything about it. Hell if I let them do it to me in the SY!

Re: first kill with new setup

Decited I needed day alone so I went out lats night and killed a tank of gas. I went all over san jose looking. I needed to blow off some steam on what has been a hard month for me.
I came accross a 2000ish camaro....Smoked him from a 20mph roll took it up to 100.
next was a import...a integra I think...from the light,no boost....let of at 70mph. to easy.
then...a tacoma on the freeway from a 60mph to 110. I was just showing off.
A nice 2004 or 2005 corvette. dont know what he had but we ran from a 40mph roll and he killed me.
decited to head back to the hotel and smoked an older mustang.
The most fun I had in the sy. I picked up some alky today so tonight I will be out again.
BTW. cops were everywhere and i almost got pulled over.

Good to hear you're out having fun in the SY. I was getting messed with by some ricers last night. Followed me off the off-ramp after I pulled away from them hard on the freeway.BTW I was on E(gas gauge) and didn't want to race because I had to make it home. So as soon as I get on the off-ramp he like floors it and almost rams the back of the TY, so when I get to the end of the off-ramp I floor it and pull like a mile on these guys and turn off to go home. Ohhh I wish I had like 1/2 tank or more, I would have caught the next light with these punks( civic hatchback all bodykitted out, and a sweet looking wrx ) and showed them what a TY is all about.

No hijack here, just had to get that off my mind

Re: first kill with new setup

went through a whole tank of gas and went 80 miles. I guess I was on it a lot.

With the alky The DM calculator showed:
60ft 1.779
1/8th 7.902@88.3mph
1/4 12.495@ 107.2mph
0-60 3.866
MAX boost 20.4 psi
max KR 1.1 on 1-2 shift
truck was a bit rich 10.3
FP set @ 38
I found a nice place in sanjose/morgan hill where theres nothing for a few miles. Traction was good and I did a 5-6lb boost launch with my wife in the truck too. I had the phil chip set on 4 and the alky set on 3.5. It starts to spray at ~12psi. on a track with some more work I hope to see low 12's.

Re: first kill with new setup

not sure how accurate the DM is compaired to the real track. Before I did the work the dm showed me at a low 13 on 15lbs. The iats were in the high 60's last night. That was my best run. I did 3. The other two were 12.7ish and a 12.8ish. The rode was also a bit downhill(was already going about 70mph) at one point so that helped a bit but I am not going to say than when I show people my DM run. :D

Re: first kill with new setup

Nice kills. F those RX-8s. The only "decent" (I use decent VERY loosely) rotary is the 93-95 TT Rx-7s, or the 87-91 Turbo cars. First gens, are decent as well, because of the 3mm apex seal design. The older design of the motor is better IMO than the new design as well.

I've owned two Rx-7s, and they are fun cars. However you will never work on a more tempermental car in all your life. Lean it out, or make that motor knock, and kiss your apex seals goodbye...

Not saying that they aren't tempermental, but a piston motor will take some knock, or lean conditions. The rotary is notoriusly unreliable. They have an unefficent design because of the combustion chamber shape. Also, apex seals go to hell in a hand basket quick on most of them when retards start doing modifications. Just check on ebay to see how many have had a rebuilt motor installed. Mazda had a hell of a time in the 90's w/warranty because so many were blowing up or catching fire.

Im not really looking to start a rotary discussion/argument. Nor was I saying that the Sy/Ty was "easy" to work on either. So no offense guys, just was making a comment....

Re: first kill with new setup

Well, I ordered a 9/11 2500 stall billet TC from John Waller so my truck should finally be at least low 12s in a few weeks. No more slipping converter and non-locking TCC, I hope. I also ordered some KYB Monomax shocks to replace the Koni adjustables in there that are so damn stiff. Will be driving the Sy again very soon.

Re: first kill with new setup

Dangit, I was gonna suggest us trading rear shocks. I want some a little stiffer, and I'm currently running the Monomax.
