The plant that I work at specializes in the manufacture of packaging molds. We make molds, tooling and prototypes for some VERY large companies... We design and cut the molds, form the part(s) and machine them to exact specifications if necessary. Now that we are getting more diversified in polyurethane, we are making the tooling to replace parts that have been typically been made of rubber. We are also making parts that have never been manufactured of rubber or polyurethane. Nothing like working at a place that is breaking new ground.

So it's a rapid prototyping company?? Use anything like SLA? That is the kind of stuff I'd like to get into eventually, but don't have the funds as of yet.

I for one would love to go to all repro cladding. That way I could sell all of my original cladding to those who care about that kinda stuff. My Sy is a little far gone to try for original.:rotf:

Yeah, I'd love to eventually park all my cladding away in packaging. That's what fueled all of this after I was rear-ended.

Re: Finally have a mold for making urethane cladding

Keep up the good work bro  !!!!!!!!!! It would be nice to be able to get replacement Cladding for a resonable price, I dont see the big deal is about cheap cladding anyway how many guys Sy/Ty's are completly orginal??? So if you want to keep the orginal cladding safe and sound buy the replacements stuff and pack away the original and forget about it!!!! thats my :2cents: ... I cant wait to see the finished work and I hope it all works out!!!!!!

Dan I for 1 really appreciate all the work you have put into this project, because we all know these trucks are expensive as it is so any cost saving is great. It's kind of cool to read as you and CarbonAWD talk back and forth about stuff because you 2 are so far over my head with this stuff. I have no idea what the hell you 2 are talking about. LOL

I read a topic awhile back where you were throwing the idea of this around, but I'm pretty damn amazed it's come this far. Keep up the good work!

As for SyTy value decrease, I bet there's alot of guys out there waiting for Yenko prices to come down due to the availability of aftermarket stripe kits. :p Those who want a SyTy will get a SyTy. If someone wants a SyTy only because of the "body kit", it's probably best they don't own one anyways.

I know I may be raising the dead by posting this, but how is the progress going on the cladding? Last we heard it was going well:tup:

It's going well. I'm actually slowing on the project due to the temperatures here in Phoenix (105-110 degrees) Working outside in this is brutal. I have that piece that I made though sitting out in the scorching heat, rain storms, getting hit by grass clippings and exposed to everything I can throw at it. It is a good test for the material.

I have another mold in the works, but it's been sitting for a while. Being an albino, and in the sun......not a good combo.

So my side project for the summer is hydrogen/oxygen injection for better gas miileage.

As you can tell, I hate being without something to do. ;)

Awesome, the "torture test" is a good idea. M dad is in Arizona for business, and is hating every minute of it. 115* in an non-air conditioned plant:(

Not really, all of this takes a lot of time. I've resumed my work in these though. It's pretty time consuming trying to figure out all the tricks on molding these things. While I was able to pull a part from that mold, I still have 13 other molds to figure out. So it won't be done overnight.

I'll post updates when I have made certain strides in the project.

Can your next mold be the passenger side rear corner for a sy?

If I owned a Syclone, that would be easier.....

Best to go with Marty for the time being.
