Felpro Vortec Gaskets 1268 and 1203 comparisson (PIC)

The 1268 (bottom gasket in pic) is thicker, and the ports are slightly smaller both length- and width-wise. It also provides more surface area. This is the gasket the shop used when welding my intake, and they liked the way it lined up.

The 1203 (top gasket in pic) is what some others are using. It really comes down to personal preference in my opinion, and how ported you are making you intake/heads.

The difference in thickness is subtle, but noticeable. The 1268 is a .9, and the 1203 is a .6. I believe that is in mm, but not positive. I don't have the port size measurement differences handy, but can post them if anyone really wants to know.

the red lines on my intake is a trace of the 1268 gasket alignment. That is basically how much material i will be grinding down off the intake to help flow.

Just thought i'd share the pic/info.

You can only do so much before you are grinding air or exposing lots of the injector, or grinding through the injector seat.

Some porting work in this area will definitely help. Try and unshroud the injector bungs too.

note the scooped out portion for the injector spray, at the top, to matchup to my L35s

hey mike, wouldnt it make more sense to use a tracing of the openings in the head to see what you need to port on the intake, and then use a tracing of the intake ports to see what you need to port on the heads?

if you use a tracing of the gasket, to mark how you are gonna port the intake and heads, it seems like you will be doing a lot of unnecessary porting where they meet, since the gasket is bigger than BOTH openings. (assuming your not gonna port the heads for flow)

Ummm...huh? You said port the heads, but don't port the heads? Didn't quite follow what you said.

I'm not going to port my heads, since they're already torqued down onto the block. The 1268 gasket matches up almost perfectly w/ the heads, so i'm really only mostly concerned w/ how much smaller the stock intake ports are then the vortec heads/gasket.

Ummmmm are you 100% sure that those part #'s are accurate vs their location in the picture ?

I installed a set of Felpro 1268's on my Typhoon when I installed the manifold converted for vortec heads.

The gasket you have pictured as the 1203's (bottom one) is what my 1268's look like.. I was down helping J Scott attempt installation of his intake (also on vortec heads) and he had a set of 1268's also and his ALSO looked like the ones you are calling 1203's.

Not trying to start an argument, just wondering why it is that your 1268's look different than the 2 sets I have seen here locally.

I was wondering earlier today, but figured it was just drugs or something confusing my eyesight.

Do you want a pic of the 3rd style available also? I just so happen to have a fresh set in my hands.

The gasket's Jeff has are from NAPA and they are for a 96+ Vortec S-10 truck. Just ask for a 96+ Newer 4.3L truck.

as I and turbo tony told you mike the 1268 will not work without extra work. the 1203 will. 1268 will leak coolant into your motor under the front coolant passages if you do not modify the coolant passages or the heads. use the 1203 and you will not have this problem.
