Fan Pusher vs Puller?

I just want to make I have this correct.

I assume, if I bought a puller fan. I have it mounted on the back of the radiator in front of the engine. (ie where the stock clutch fan is) The fan would pull air across the radiator/condensor.

I bought a puller fan 5 years ago and I realize today while sitting in front of the truck that fan is blowing forward out to the front of the truck. This probably explains why I have elevate temp on the highway (I set it for 160, but they will crepp upto 190-200 with the AC on) I double checked the box and I bought a puller.

Re: Fan Pusher vs Puller?

I suspect that you have a puller fan just not a reverse rotation puller fan. It's extremely unlikely you have a pusher fan. They exist but not in any automotive application that I can think of.

Re: Fan Pusher vs Puller?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I was referring to engine driven pusher fans. Having just re-read the post it seems I screwed up and jumped to the conclusion he was referring to a engine driven fan. Let me try again...

Would a puller fan mounted to rear of the rad and wired incorrectly (reverse polarity) run in reverse and push?

I guess I wasn't totally clear that its an electric fan.

I looked through the orignal instructions and I have it wired up correctly. Black is ground, white is switch power.

Re: Fan Pusher vs Puller?

There's both pushers and pullers in both electric and mechanical. With the reverse rotation of water pumps these have become more popular in the street rod/hot rod industry.I had a friend use a puller and had it mounted in the front of the rad, worked ok in the city but it was fighting itself on the hiway. Can you swap the wiring and see if it reverses itself?

Re: Fan Pusher vs Puller?

sometimes you cannot just switch the wires. you might blow a fuse. some fans arenot meant to be able to switch directions

if you feel heat blowing out from the front of the truck, then yeah.. thats not good.

Re: Fan Pusher vs Puller?

There is a small chance that the fan itself is made to be flipped around in the housing.
