Re: fan clutch delete?

Just run the astro fan....I did...keep the clutch...it's there for a reason. Unless you go to electric fans.:2cents:.....

Re: fan clutch delete?

Years ago they use to make blocks to convert clutch fans to run constantly, I don't know if they still do.
Did you ever look at the electric clutch on some of the trailblazer fans. It would give you the best of both worlds, the great air flow of a mechanical fan and the ability to turn it off.

Re: fan clutch delete?

I deleted mine years ago with a stainless steel flex fan and a 3" or so spacer , it works fine .
I do live in N. W. Wyoming so not much heat to deal with . After hitting a deer years ago my stock fan may have been tweaked a bit so I didn't trust it . (20,000 miles ago)

1st post-welcome!

you are brave. i know 3 different people that USE to run the flex fans because of the cool look factor and all 3 had them go through the hood or shred their belts from coming off while driving.

i bought one from vato-zone and somehow mine got bent from driving after 2 years or so. bad installation-? that was enough for me to decide to delete it. '79 cutlass supreme w/ a 350 rocket engine swap.

Re: fan clutch delete?

Hey "speed racer"
Were those folks that had their flexfans explode the fiberglass version ?
Mine has eight blades and are reinforced at the rivet mounts .

Thanks for the welcome !

Re: fan clutch delete?

The aluminum flex fans were known to come apart.
The stainless flex fan s were the better ones to use.

The one I used IIRC, was a Hayden brand, no problems. I used it on my Camaro.

Years ago, Car Craft or Hot Rod mag did tests, with flex fans, clutch fans & no fan

The Clutch fan mad the same power output as the test with no fan.
The worst HP robbing fan was the fiberglass flex fan.
The stainless flex fan, was not too bad for HP loss & the aluminum flex fan robbed more HP over the stainless flex fan.

I still use the factory clutch fan on my Sy, works good & no problems.
