External wastegate Q's for those of you that have one>

Can you hear your external wastgate??? I'm hearing some noises under boost that sounds like my external wastgate opening and closing real fast{puffing sound}....i don't a have dump pipe and its mounted on the crossover. Does this sound normal?? Is that how the external works....opens and closes real fast?? I have it hooked up runing its base spring which I think is 9lbs.....I hear to puffing sound before 9lbs and until 9lbs where it will stop building boost . Its a turbonetics Race gate for 900HP.

If it recirculates and doesn't dump like you say than no you shouldn't hear it.

with an electronic boost controller you will be able to hear it opening/cloasing like its oscilating. with a bleed or valve regulator you'll notice the external's sound (basically an open exhaust pipe) with oncoming boost, but you shouldnt hear it puffing.

Ok....cool..so an external does open and close real fast to control boost . I thought it would blowoff or bleed off like a blowoff valve.

The exhaust side of my external is open ....... and it sounds like exhaust puffing out in a controled way.....thanks!

sounds normal to me...if it sounds like a big exhaust leak, then its probably working correctly.

weird. We had that gate on the supra and it was silent with the profec b. We switched to the innovative pro gate and it too is silent.

I was totally wrong.....it wasn't even the wastgate.....it was a slight misfire! I put in some Autolite plugs in today and decied to check the resistance of my Tr5's ...one of the plugs was off the charts.....they only had 200 miles on'em.

I'm doing some testing with plugs right now and I'll let you all know how it turns out.
