Erratic tachometer

Hi,
New here on this forum with a couple of questions. I just bought a 92 Typhoon with an erratic tachometer, it shows 1500 on idle and 7000 when it shift up.
Is there anything I can do to fix that or do I just replace it? Thinking of putting in an aftermarket tach but don't know what wire I should use for input pulse.
Getting an user cluster is not an option as there are nothing available in Sweden, only a handful cars total. Advise highly appreciated.

That's a little out of my league, anyone knows what wire to use for an aftermarket tach?

It's the white wire in the coil plug. You can also grab the signal at the C101 connector - which is about 1ft (that's like 30 centimeters for you filthy Europeans) up under the passenger side dash. It's the white wire there also.
