Engine will not shut off

I just got the new engine put back in my truck and am having a problem. When I turn off the key, the engine will not stop running. It stays running just as if the key has not been turned off. With the key off and truck running, the dash gauges remain as if the key was still on. I killed the truck by pulling the coil wire.

I have tried several times with the same results. Also, the key and dash seem to function correctly before I start the truck.

My first thought is the ignition switch. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thank you,

Stab it and steer it
Re: Engine will not shut off

I’ve heard that if the alt field remains energized the alt keeps producing juice and the engine keeps going. Try disconnecting the alt and see if will shutdown normally.

Got it. I had a jumper to hot wire the fuel pump plugged in and it was causing the engine to stay running.

Thanks.

So how long did you have it turned on? Reminds me when a friend locked his keys inside and the car running. They wanted to let the car idle till it ran out of gas. What idots(he and his dad) the car had half a tank of gas and the car was a 4 cyl econobox.
