So I am rebuilding the engine in my Sy and need help with choosing the right parts. I'm about to take my block to a machine shop and have it bored .030 over stock. Cylinder walls have some scoring. I'm trying to figure out what pistons I need to get. For some reason I can't seem find the information I'm looking for on here. The stock engine on these are lower compression than a standard 4.3 correct? 8.35:1? So that would mean I cannot use pistons for a standard 4.3 or 350 v8 for a mostly stock configuration, right? So how do I find the correct pistons to maintain the stock compression ratio?
After pulling the heads I discovered the pistons I have are Speed-Pro L2441F STD pistons. I would love to get a new set since they seem to be quality forged pistons, but I cannot find any as if they are discontinued. According to the specs on those pistons, they do not seem to match the stock specs for the Sy/Ty 4.3 (stroke being 3.75 instead of stock 3.48, but I don't see how the pistons would change the stroke). I've read on here people using JE 170817 pistons but they use a 6" rod instead of a 5.7" rod. Or does that matter since the pin size is the same? Also those pistons are really not budget friendly at $1000 for a set. Would love to find a decent set under $600 if at all possible. The only pistons I have found are Summit Racing brand part# SUM-17360FC-30, which seem to match all of the stock specs and are far more affordable at $414 for a set of 8.
Anyways, I know I am probably over thinking this, but I REALLY want to do this right, because if it blows up its going to sit for a year before I have the time and money to rebuild the thing again.
