elec fan temp sensor location

i hooked up my elec fan with variable controller, but i think sensor is in wrong location of radiator, my temps stay about 170ish.
if facing radiator from front of truck, my sensor is in lower left corner, right by the lower radiator hose.
is that right?

Should be top left by the hose. Did you buy the flexalite controller?

i have the dccontrol.com controller.

so you mean below the fill cap?

Re: elec fan temp sensor location

maybe thats what I meant  ... right near the top hose. The fluid is returning from the block on top, so the stuff at the bottom will be cooled off already and won't trigger the fan as early. I have a screw in sender on my fan mounted in the water neck, keeps my engine temps at about 165 or so

same one that the ECM uses... was like $15 at napa and comes with the weatherpack plug. I have my fan on a 35amp relay, it's fed power through that sensor. When temps hit about 165 - 170, the sensor resistance is low enough that the relay triggers the fan on.

Re: elec fan temp sensor location

here's the idea... I originally had the sensor on the ground side but the relay would get really hot from the high resistance ground and stop working... this method works much better.

I used that same controller on my old V8 Ranger. Awsome controller by the way.

Where you put it is exactly where DC Control says to put it on a Ford. If the 4.3 circulates water the same as a 302(hey, this is the first Chevy I have ever owned and have only had it for a week) then it is the way DC says. If the 4.3 has a reverse flow like I have heard the 350's in Vettes do(I hope that wasn't an ignorant statement) then I would agree it should be up by the top.

That didn't help at all did it?

where did you get the water neck with the tap?
Autozone... cost me like $9. It is cast though, I would suggest trying to find a billet or aluminum one :2cents:

do you know what size the threads are for the water neck tap?
if i am not mistaken, they're a standard 1/4" NPT. Just check the sensor in the manifold.
