Re: EGR removal

I noticed with my sy the EGR system would add an extra 30 to 40 degrees of heat to my intake temps instantly when it would kick in.. I said F that and deleted that crap

Re: EGR removal

Putting hot exhaust gas into the cool incoming air is about the stupidist (if that's a word) think the factory's done. Lots of build up of black sooty carbon in the plenum.

I blocked the lower part of my intake with a plug. It can't even get into the plenum. The EGR valve is removed as well.
Get rid of it!

Re: EGR removal

lose it, mines bone stock and after turning it off with the waller chip, automatic40degree drop in IAT's

What do you need to do to get rid of it? Chip?

Yea need to have it disabled in the chip or have a chip that has it disabled in the bin file.. if not you'll get a check engine light when ever it tries to kick in (highway speeds mostly).. also you need a block off plate to replace the open port where the valve was on the upper intake.

So I need to buy one? Or can I do it with datamaster?

You can't edit any chip's parameters with Datamaster just view and data log so no you won't be able to do it with Datamaster. If you want to see the difference in intake temps first hand from deleting the egr by viewing it in datamaster.. you can disable the egr by removing and pluggin the vac line to the egr valve on the upper intake. Drive it around and see how much lower your intake temps stay then decide if you want to spend the $10 for the egr block off and $35 bucks for someone to who can program bins to disable the egr on your chip.

Some people take it a step further to make sure no heat at all hits the upper intake by pluggin the port within the lower intake manifold.. i didn't do that yet because I haven't had to take my intake off yet but may end up doing it later one even though im happy wiht the results of just removing that egr crap

Re: EGR removal

Disable it in your chip, for instance the Ultimate disable it in most programs. Unless your block off the EGR passage in the head (ie pulling the lower intake), a block plate or EGR valve will have the same effect. The block plate just creates more room in that area.

Re: EGR removal

If you remove your EGR you will see more fuel consumption and worse gas mileage (like 1-3mpg) but more HP due to lower intake temps. The Ultimate Chip (which requires a 3 BAR MAP sensor) has settings (T1-16 through T3-23) that turn off the EGR. Brilliant!
