all you guys runnig e85, did you having to dial up some more timing when you switched over? i switched over and got the fuel pressure set but it seems sluggish on the bottom end till bost comes on

You couldn't possibly begin to tune it with fuel pressure.

You'll need to massage the fuel tables heavily to make it work properly.

Re: e85 question

that's what i was figuring to to run it 100%. i gave it a shot out of curiosity. i'll just dilute it w/ som 93 to keep the octane up. under boost though it runs like a scaled ape. but out of boost it's bogging. i'm gonna buy my tuning stuff while i'm in the desert so when get back i'll try again. like just about everything else i've learned about my truck i'll learn it the hard way.

Re: e85 question

to effectively run E85 you must retune ... the a/f mixture needs to be much richer

Re: e85 question

I just read a article in Car Craft about a carb'd engine and the AFR's they had to run with E85.

E85 has a octane rating of 100-105... So diluting it with 93 would only help the BTU's not the Octane. Gas has a BTU rating of 114,000 while E-85 has 83,000 So more E-85 is required to fuel the engine VS gas.

AFR Chart for Gas VS E-85

14.7-1 GAS is 9.7-1 with E-85

12.5-1 GAS is 6.9-1 with E-85

We need to target in the 11.5- AFR range with gas so it'd be in the 5's on E-85.

You'll need alot of tuning if your going to run that fuel and bigger injectors to get that kind of AFR at WOT. The only reason your not detonating is the octane rating of E85.. Cause I Bet your very lean everywhere with that fuel.

As Dig said... Stay with gas or total re-tune is going to be required...

Hope that helps with your situation... as I've thought of going that route as E-85 becomes more avalible... Be nice if they told you that up front wouldn't it... or at least had very good information before sticking it in your tank!

Re: e85 question

do any of our tuners do an E85 chip? I know Hood does not since he has no E85 to play with. I know we need a 255 pump, but do we need larger injectors?

Re: e85 question

I have been running E85 for three years now. it is a great boost_friendly fuel. you will need to tune (software) for it and it will accept more timing.
