drivetrain issue

Ok, I have a vibration comming from somewhere, I had a bad Tcase because when I took off the front propshaft it would go away, so I replaced the Tcase, the vibration have all but almost gone away starting at 55 mph I can feel it. I have checked all the fluids including the differentials and it all looks good. Any idea where to begin looking next?

There was not a propshaft on my ty when I got it so I got one from checker auto. It has like 5 miles on it total so I cannot picture this being the problem!

Mine does the same thing. 60+ I get a vibration. Changed wheels and tires (checked balance twice), front and rear driveshafts and universals have been replaced, converter was rebuilt and balanced, trans is new, engine is newer, I have the wedges on the lowering leafs etc. I've always had that issue even with a completely stock truck. I'm jumping on board with this thread! Only things not replaced: half shafts, front diff, t-case...

Is your truck lowered in the rear at all? If it is then check to see if the stock wedge plate is installed, lowering without reusing them has been known to contribute to high speed vibrations.

No it's not lowered. But I will check them. I have thought about wheel bearrings but I inspected them and they appear to be fine. The thing that I dont understand it went away after the front propshaft was removed!

Well, I know I've got a wheel bearing wearing out on the pass side. With the lower a-arm supported, you can wiggle the wheel quite a bit. I though it was my wheels, so had them balanced several times, and the tried "road-force" balancing, which Discount only does if you ask specifically for. Helped, but the vibration still comes and goes. Pretty sure it's my wheel bearing, just haven't replaced it yet because I wanted to make sure I can replace it with a non-abs hub, since I'll be pulling the abs some day.

I never tried to take out my front prop shaft and go for a ride but my vibration is exactly like you're describing...

Go ahead and leave them on the truck, but when you jack up the truck, make sure your lower a-arms are supported. The balljoints are spring-loaded, and can be deceiving if you don't support the arms.

prop shaft correctly orientated? there is a diagram in the manual about fisrt order and second order vibrations caused by wrong mounting orientation of the prop shaft.

Try taking it off and rotating the front by 90 degrees then reconnecting it up. Or look in the manual and see what I am talking about. I can't remember exactly...

Actually, supporting the arm or leaving it hanging will make no difference on a wheel bearing. If you can feel play all the way around the wheel (top, bottom, sides) then it's a bearing. You only need to support the front end when checking ball joints & tie rods.

Wheel bearings rarely cause vibration issues. Since the vibration is gone with the front shaft removed, I'd suspect the front shaft, since everything else is still turning even with the front shaft removed.

I tried re-orienting the prop shaft a few times on my truck. I couldn't make the vibration stop. Not saying that won't work on yours but I couldn't get positive results by doing so. I had the vibe with stock prop shaft and I switched to Gilbert shaft and it still didn't go away. I'm still scratching my head too.

Ok I will also try rotating the propshaft in 90 degree increments. Its a shame Im stuck at work and not working on the ty. That is a full time job its self. LOL:rotf:

i have had this same issue since i got my ty first i thought it was a wheel so i balanced them twice at 2 different places didnt help so i bought zO6 wheels and still there , next i pulled the prop shaft and had that balanced and it was nearly spot on ,but without it in there is no vibration put it back in no change . I stopped by my local driveline place and talked to another guy who said it may be the plunger part of the shaft is bad so i was gonna get a gilbert and try that otherwise could it be the front axle shafts ? when i had it on my hoist for a oil change this spring i ran it in drive to watch everything rotate and the axle shafts were jumping up and down a good 3/8-1/2" . i didnt have the A arms supported but would that really make a difference?

you've done everything I've done as well. Balance stock wheels twice, nothing. Switch to Z06 wheels and balance them twice, nothing. Change universals, nothing. Change to Gilbert prop shaft and replace rear driveshaft, nothing. Change motors, trans, converter, still nothing... We probably all have the same issue going on. haha

The book is no help, because I do not have any preexisting marks on my flanges. Going to have to do it the hard way and rotate it. Ill let you all know.:rant:
