drivetrain in a bind

I'm new to syclone world and I've been having trouble with this truck latley. Every once in a while when I put the truck in reverse it will move about a foot and then the drivetrain feels like it just locks up and won't move. It feels like the transfer case is getting in a bind. If i give it alot of gas it will make a loud CLUNCK and then it's fine again and it starts moving. If anyone knows what's causing this I could really use some advice.

Thanks for the reply. The truck has 80,000 miles on it and it's mainly used as a daily driver. I've only had the truck for about one month and it's done this about four different times already. To add one more thing, the truck is completly stock except for the exhaust. The sound this thing makes when it pops loose is a hollow mettalic sound (metal on metal).

ive heard my limited slip diff pop on my 454ss truck in reverse, id be turning while in reverse and once in a while it would pop really loud, changed the fluid and checked it out and all was fine, i used the limited slip additive, but i dont think it should pop with the gov- lock that the syty's have, not sure, but id check out the rear end for noise
