Drivetrain effect on top end.

It seems like no matter what I do, I always have the sameish MPH. If I run 13.6 or 14.1 I never can get over 96 MPH. Im starting to wonder if I have something in the driveline holding me up somehow. I can cut 1.7 60's and the truck will feel real strong til it hits about 80 then you can really feel it start to kinda give up. I know we dont have much for top end in the first place but for the amount of things I have done, I feel I should be running better than this. My friend Abe can run a 13.6 @ 96 with the bolt on 20g and few supporting mods. FP, AFPR, IC pump. Thats it. He ahs the stock boost solenoid and everything. Ive been breaking my neck just to run that time consistant and I have all kinds of crap on my truck. Iv ebeen working with the tuning thing but it just seems like somethings wrong and has been wrong for a while. My front diff whines when I let off the gas, could this be a problem at all? I imagine if so it wouldve broke by now but maybe Im wrong. I jsut feel like Im not looking at something.

Re: Drivetrain effect on top end.

Your altitude is what is slowing you down. :2cents: 5000FT?
Do you still have that weak stock wastegate actuator?
Also, have you checked your front end alignment, toe in?
Also, you still have the stock 8 CM turbine housing correct? Is it opened up at all, ported?
You can go a step up bigger 10 CM, I have a 12 CM & it runs great!
Also, what exhaust set-up do you have, are you using a straight through muffler or muffler delete?

I have a 14cm 20g. We are at 6000ft. My exhaust is 3" from the DP back, no cat no muffler. Abe ran his 13.6@97 with the same setup pretty much except far fewer supporting mods. I think my alignment is ok. BTW, he runs stock boost as to where Ill run 17-18. Runs 91 oct.. I dont know what else it could be.

Re: Drivetrain effect on top end.

Just curious, if you can turn up the boost a bit more to like 20 psi? Is knock preventing you to turn it up?
That altitude is really killing you, there is less air @ 6000 ft.
I ran my Sy back to back weekends ,one track was @ 3000+ ft altitude the other was @ 800 ft.
It ran 12.6 @ 102-103 @ 3000+ ft ,then ran 12.2 & 12.3 @ 107 -108 mph, no other changes other than the altitude.

I checked my toe in & it had too much, like over 1/16" I got it closer to zero toe in (not completely zero but real close.) @ picked up about 1 MPH. :2cents:

I beleieve he and Abe are running at the same altitude.

so basically your friend runs the same mph with less boost and fewer mods? Are you getting any detonation? 18psi seems like a lot for 91 octane :2cents: I'm new with these trucks but not new with turbocharged cars. Also, I'm sure you know the mph usually doesn't change much even with a good 60'(sometimes it's even slower). HTH

Yes, Abe and Mike live at the same altitude. I believe that Mike out 60's Abe though because Abe is rolling on dubs. (well 18's, but close enough  )

methanol injection and higher boost
Would cure your weak fuel and slow truck problem :)

I guess my whole point here is that I shouldnt need anything else if someone else is accomplishing the same thing with less. Know what I mean? I did some comparing last night and his truck barely knocks. As far as he knows, hes on a stock chip. I am also using Data Master to tell me my times so they may be slightly defferent but they are usually dead on. Abe's run was saved on my laptop and his slip matched DM exact. So I dismiss it as being right. I do have knock but there is no way I can be knocking with the same exact set up and plenty of fuel now. I dont know. He runs 91 too btw.

Also, our 60's are pretty much the same.

I thought you were ~.1 faster?

Regaurdless, you need NAAAWWWSSS. Then you'll be pulling on him

both of your trucks are knocking :squint: Any knock you can hear is "bad". How much timing is being pulled by the computer?

Re: Drivetrain effect on top end.

I don't think the drivetrain is going to have a lot of effect on the overall speed through the traps, except maybe tires. More of an effect on your 60'

I have the same one he has. Its what comes with the 20g and the WG is ported.

I dont hear any knock. His truck has about .05 KR in the middle of his run and mine gets all the way up to 8-9*. Im thoroughly convinced my "knock" is false. Ive tried everything. Ive toned the timing down and still get the same thing. Even tried richening hte hell out of it. Tried going to 15psi.

If you want to, you can install a stiffer wastegate actuator.
That way, your wastegate does not open too soon, prematurely.
It helped mine out.

The one I installed does not start to move untill 12-15 psi? IIRC?
Stock one opened @ 6 PSI IIRC? :2cents:

I got mine from, where Richard Chan used to work,(maybe someone here remembers?) I forgot the name, but they are in Canada.
Can't remember where that invoice went to?
I had Ryan help me from there.
If I find the invoice I'll post it.
