Re: Doug DeMuro Typhoon Video

Steve......Thanks for more good PR for the SYTY community. The more exposure we can get for our trucks, more people will be interested, and hopefully the values will increase. In my opinion for low production vehicles our trucks haven't been bringing the $$ that they should, although prices seem to have been going up over the last few years.
Funny thing though, I don't think thet he even mentioned that they are AWD. ( maybe I missed it ).

Thanks.

He didn't. He may have forgotten. But there are plenty of people in the comments section making that point.

Nice job. Makes me want to buy a Typhoon. Oh wait what am I thinking.

:rotf:

(but really, that's the idea in a sense: more press > raise awareness > increase desirability > slightly enhance value based on supply/demand/age/rarity )

EDIT: I'm not on facebook so if someone want to throw the video up there, it will get more views. TIA (nvrmnd...I see it)

He does a good job, I like his reviews. He talks with his hands, I like it. It makes it fun to watch. As long as he's not doing it while he's driving. Good job guys!

The majority of the people that desire these trucks are now in their late 30's to late 40's. They are the people that were young and fascinated with them when they were first released. I feel the reason the prices are going up, is the fact that as people get older their disposable income generally goes up. In another 15 or so years I think they will peak out on price. Similar to the early 70's ss chevelles, and their values. Guys in their 50's trying to live the dream of their youth. Except they have the money in their 401k's or their pensions, to actually buy their childhood dream car. Once "our" generation gets to the retirement age I think you will see a good dollar commanded of these trucks. It could get pretty crazy, as I think the good ones that will be left will be held tightly by their current owners. It seems these trucks require so much time money and attention, that once squared away become a part of you. I know I will never sell my ty, it will belong to my son one day.

Some valid points here but overall, it's hard to say. Unlike the "simple" muscle cars of the 60' and 70's, I think SyTy's have an overall less appeal because of the complexity and relative need for upkeep and/or upgrades. And the aftermarket world has definitely shrunk as the years have gone by...unlike "classic" muscle cars where there's an endless flow of aftermarket vendors/suppliers.

This is why incidentally that I'm a big fan of keeping things stock. Un-dorked-with, low mileage, stock examples might hold value in years to come, but those in need of restoration probably won't.

The cladding alone is going to be a major cost factor for someone who, in 15 years, wants to restore one of these. I absolutely love the cladding of these trucks, but as a long term feature, it was probably not a great idea for GM to add fitted plastic skirts. They improve the look x10 but probably hurt long term value. (Unlike my first car...the mass produced ['79] Trans Am...which had plastic bits...but they are not only being reproduced, but they seemed to be of a more forgiving and fleixble material...so cracked less.)

And that's not even to mention the mechanics (which are certainly simple and prehistoric compared to today's cars), but not simple enough to be supported in 15 years with knowledgeable and enthusiastic wrenchers.

The ONLY reason prices of ALL asset classes is rising so rapidly is because of Central Banks all over the world issuing Trillions and Trillions of newly-created "dollars" year after year. This money is chasing already-existing assets like real estate, artwork, classic cars, and "blue chip" stocks. The VALUE of cars isn't changing at all. Either are houses or skyscrapers. The PRICE is. There is a big difference. But the amount of "money" in circulation chasing the finite number of assets to purchase IS increasing, so the price does too to adjust.

The value of a SyTy may increase relative to the value of say a Ford Pinto, but the "price" may not continue to increase at the recent pace. Desirability has a lot to do with ascertaining value. In my scenario, Typhoons may be more desirable than Pintos, and will escalate in relative value where a Pinto may decline. And look out below if there is ever a market correction such as we had in 1989, 2000, or 2007. Everything goes down as the "money" evaporates into the vapor it came out of in the first place.

What goes up also can come down. Hard.

The fractional reserve banking system we use in America is really quite the sham. if you have ever seen the movie zeitgeist, there is a good run down of our scam of a money system. Not saying everything in there is fact, but it is good food for thought. You know the saying, careful going down the rabbit hole.
