How do you take off the outside door handle trim for painting?

If you mean the handle itself, from inside the door.

No, I mean the outside trim around the door handle. It appears like the trim is glued to the door.

Its just double sided tape. Heat it up with a blow dryer and pull them off.

Yep. They are called "escutcheons" and they are held on with double-sided tape.

I found this thread and was wondering if the "escutcheons" are a factory part on a Ty? I always thought the first owner put it on mine. Sorry to jump in here but I didn't want to start a new thread.
