Do any of you have auto start?

Forced to by choice
I went to highschool with a kid(4 years ago now, if your taking notes :D ) And he had it on his F-150, said it cost him like $130 to have it installed, just wondering if anyone else has it, or knows someone that does, I've been thinking about getting it, if I get this sy I'm looking at. ?

And if you dont understand auto start, its kinda like keyless enrty, you push a button and it cranks your truck for you, I think it has to bypass the ignition somehow.

I have it and am spoiled.

Used the ice scraper once since, when I forgot to remote start in morning.
Ice and Snow melted, or a/c cooling when you come out.
Plus chicks dig it.

Mine came with my clifford G4.

Different kinds I know can start out at under $100 if catch them on special, (remote start only). Any Circuit City, Best Buy, or Ultimate Electronics can do it or local car audio-tint shop.

That's the beauty of auto start. The truck starts, all fine and dandy, but then you can hook it up so once the brake is touched, the truck shuts off unless you put the key into it beforehand. If you have a car that you have to apply the brake b4 you can shift into drive, you win. It's nice to have in the morn to warn up the auto b4 ya have to go outside and freeze off a part of your anatomy.

I have remote start on 2 of my cars, not on the ty and love it. Its nice to get into a warm car in the morning. As soon as you toutch the brake , it shut off if the key is not in the ignition.

***RECALL THIS ITEM***

Bulldog Security Systems + Remote Start sold at greater retail outlets such as K-Mart & Wal-Mart.

They have a bad wiring diagram in their manual. This is a known issue. When following instructions it will keep feeding voltage to the starter eventually killing the starter while the vehicle is on.
------------------------------------------------------------

Other then that I've had a Viper Security System + Remote start in my 94 Olds Bravada. The thing works flawlessly. Press two buttons from any range pretty much truck starts. If someone happened to break in the car while it was running the alarm would still sound if armed. Once disarmed if they break in it still won't move w/o the key. It has a break kill switch. They also have usually 15 minute timers on them so they shutoff if accidently started by someone else.

Wonder if we could get Ed's (Hess) thoughts on this one? It's nice to have I agree, but Morgan's idea makes the most sense, at least on trucks such as these. I've thought about getting the Clifford but didn't.

How would it make it easier to steal??? you still need the key. Mine has a alarm also. Its great for those cold days to warm the engine/trans fluids up instead of sitting in it before you can drive it.

I have a remote starter on my truck and it works great. I love it. Since I install these remote starts for a living, it know it is pretty easy to bypass. There is one main wire which stops the alarm, find that and it will stay running. There is another wire which will activate the remotestart when it times out. Essencially you could keep it running indefinately. You would still need the key to be able to turn the wheel. Just make sure when you have it installed, make sure the brain and all the other wires are taped, splitloomed and just basically hidden. Ask or it will just be sitting under the dash. Probably will cost more too.

I install them at my shop and couldn't live without mine.

All the new Crimestopper autostarts come with a Turbo timer feature that you can set to automatically turbo time your car for the amount of time needed based on how hard your car was driven (it does this by monitoring your tach signal).

Its great if you are just cruising around it only turbo times for 60-90 seconds, then if you are gunning it everywhere it can time for 3-4 minutes. You can also set it for manual mode and it will only time for how long you set it.

The best part is that you can arm your alarm and lock your doors while its turbo timing without having to do any special wiring. (most alarms won't arm with a turbo timer runing because it thinks you are driving the car, this leaves your vehicle unprotected especially if you don't remember to arm it after the car shuts off).

Nothing is more frightening than to come out in the morning to realize you never armed your alarm the night before.

They are less than $200 too. :fadein:

I had one on my Tahoe I recently sold, yeah great to have and a pretty cheap install for what your getting. I'd put one on the Ty, but I have installed a hidden fuel pump shut off switch which is an extra security measure. I guess it would be kinda lame to go outside and turn on the fuel pump, then go inside and start the truck with the remote starter
I miss it, and for someone that doesn't have to worry much about their ride being stolen, I would highly recommend it.
