Distributor installation problem

I know of 1 good friend that lost his ty motor bc of a msd dist doin exactly what yours is doing. it's an internal problem with the timing jumping to a very very advanced setting. it deto'ed his motor to death in a very short # of miles. remove that POS and put the stocker back in.

the msd does nothing for you. it mearly does what the computer tells it to do. you cant make that any better by polishing it up and making it $215.

My truck was parked for about 4-5 years before I bought it, stock distributor was much corroded and after eliminating all other problems, replacing and rechecking other ignition parts idle still unstable and tachometer still fluttering. Distributor was next logical thing to do.

Here is end of the story.
I called MSD support, explained situation, they recommended taking module from original distributor replacing the new one. It appears that distributor isn’t communicating with ECU and timing stays constant. If this works they will send me new module.

Mechanic pooled new distributor out, when we opened cap – found out that one of the wires that runs from pickup to module partially striped and pickup itself bent and touching shaft. That butthead - mechanic hit distributor against something while installing.

So I think spark vent to striped wire and killed module.
We insulated wire, moved pickup – so it isn’t touching shaft. Put everything together – truck is idling and running much smoother now. I thing it was worth to replace distributor. I wish it was done at first time.
