i heard that you can disengage the front prop shaft so you can run with two wheel drive. how do you do this?

You can remove the propshaft by removing the four bolts on each side of the propshaft... 4 on the front differential side... other 4 on the transfercase side... However, you are given fair warning... as this isn't a permanent solution in you want to run in 2wd as opposed to AWD...

driving without your front propshaft for longer than a short period of time will damage or fry the viscous coupling in the transfercase... some people have run without the front propshaft for a couple hundred miles with no damage whatsoever... others haven't been so lucky... you've been warned...

check out http://www.techweasel.com/articles/syty/propshaft.htm for instructions on removal/replacement...

Others have gone several thousand miles with no problems just make sure you fluid is not low and still in good working condition and you will be fine. But, why do this unless doing burn outs or long travel? In general we have the upper hand with the awd system.

Awesome bud! You will love it! The hardest part about owning one of these things is keeping sane!

youll also relearn every dirty word in the book, and even make your own new ones, when youre working on your sy and drop a tool down in the abyss called an engine bay.

good luck pulling out the shaft. i got my 1st 7 bolts out in no time, but there was one frozen in there. ended up taking the flange off the front diff and taking a tourch to it. other than that, no prob. lost all wet traction and any traction past 1/2 throttle though.......
