Dipstick

Re: Dipstick

I don't think so. Someone sometime ago tried a Lokar and it didn't fit. Stock one works fine. If you need some extra flash have it chromed or powdercoated another color.

Are you using Vortec heads or the stockers? If running the Vortecs you can get a late model 4x4 dipstick that will have a bracket that allows you to bolt it to the head. It fits rel nice.
The only problem is the markings for the oil level are different from our stock dipstick.

Here's what the late model dipstick looks like & where it mounts to the head:

That motor look Nice!
Ya I'll just try to get one at the dealer.Dont care about chrome too much.
I changed my oil today and put 5qts in started it,checked the dipstick it was about 2.5in above the (H) mark on the stock one ?? so i just marked it there.

You must have a dipstick from a later year in your engine. The correct one is PN 10207701.
The full mark with a full 5 qts is about 1/2" higher than the 4.5 quart factory fill / mark. If you really care, I'll measure where the full mark is on mine. But you're OK doing what you did.

The late model dipstick tube shown still works with the a/c system in place. Unless you were commenting about his valve covers.

No, I was refering to the location/angle of the stick. Seems it would hit it, but maybe not. :dunno:

Re: Dipstick

You are right in the fact it looks close cause it is a lot closer but it does clear with plenty of room. When I get back to my truck this weekend I can email you a pic if you would like

Re: Dipstick

Got the Dipstick today,it didn't come with the Dipstick tube.My original dipstick is the same length as the one i got today so it still reads high. I think my dipstick tube it the wromg one now. I might go to PNP tomorrow and hunt for a tube if the Dealer can't get one for me.

Be carefull. I went to local dealer and they gave me the wrong one. Take your old one with you if you can.
I guess they crossed it with sonnoma 4x4.

Did you manage to get this done in the truck and what is the part # ??? For tube
Ya,got a new dipstick. I was hoping it would come with the Tube.It still reads high even with 5 qts. Not to sure what's going on with it.
The parts guy's are not the sharpest tools in the shed. Was there for an hour watching them look for it.
Now i hunt for the right tube. Too hot to look at PNP.I would rather just buy it.

Re: Dipstick

I noticed this weekend with the late model dipstick tube and the stock dipstick it reads spot on.

I know for an exact fact I put 4.5 quarts in a fresh motor and with this combo it read exactly in the middle of the range.
You will have to mod the newer style dipstick tube end where the dipstick goes in since it flares out too big but that is no big deal
