dipstick w/ 4bolt mains

so, i was working on assembling the engine today, and to my dismay, i found the oil dipstick will not go into the block due to interferance with the 4 bolt mains that were used. yes, i know that there are options out there that would have prevented this in the first place, but i am way past that now.

so does anyone have any suggestions? do i just plug the thing up and go without a dipstick or is there another option?

if the suggestion is to go without, what should i be looking to use to seal the thing up?

thanks
chad

On the few I've done, just trim a bunch off of the tube and stick it in the block. I leave the dipstick out of the truck, because there is no support for it anymore. Just put a rubber cap on the end and only use the dipstick to check the oil level when needed. After awhile you won't need the dipstick at all, just watch the OP gauge and change the oil frequently.

I trimmed mine and bent the tube a little. It fits nice and tight. I remember seeing some pics a while back where I think it was Mike Renz welded a longer tab on the dipstick and screwed it into the head somewhere.

On mine I didn't see any way it could work. you could put the tube in , but the stick would just crash into the side of the cap & not go any where. I thought of grafting the tube into the side of the pan, but didn't bother.
Besides I have a 3 qt. accumulator on there for insurance.

This won't help U, but fortunately Conley saw this rebuilding my Bowtie Ty and ground a little bit off the massive 4 Main cap in question.

Hey U gave me an idea - now I know what to call my wheels - My Bow Ty Ty. Hey I coined it 1st - nobody can steal it from me !

I bought a new tube , formed that between my header and added 4 liters of oil . Then i cuted the top of the tube till it said "full"
Now the piece of the tube that fits in the block is shorter now to clear the milodons and i use some RTV to seal it
