Dextron VI

Anyone running Dextron VI ? GM claims it is backwards compatable with Dextron III.
I am a bit uneasy with the fact that it is Synthetic.
Anyone been using in in place of the Dextron III ? Results ?

I always mix in LubeGuard.

I now have a 4l80e and when I ran the 4l60 (700r4) I used a blend of LubeGuard 1 bottle, 1 Qt. Ford ATF (said to make firmer shifts), and filled to full with Dextron III and always had good results.

I might as well grow my post count too, they might have dexron 10 by the time your truck is off jack stands, its probably my fault since my check didn't clear. :rotf::nopity:

LOL

I'm closer than you think. I am stocking fluids. Security has been beefed up.
...besides you have to write a check in the first place in order for it to clear! Donations always accepted.

Re: Dextron VI

Im curiuos about this as well. I haven't heard good things about synthetic trans fluid, mostly that it swells seals and causes leaks. Weird though since synthetic is proven to be so good for motor oils.

Ok.

This post is not about the availability of Dex III.

This post is about finding out if anyone is using Dextron VI and their results.

....and your post count grows:tup:

I couldn't care less about a post count.

I only mentioned that because I assumed you couldn't find or wasn't aware that DIII wasn't around.

Don't get it twisted. I try to participate in the tech discussions as much as possible.

FWIW, I have a mix of D III and D VI in my Blazer right now. I'm not going to chance putting pure VI in until after a rebuild. With that said, I wouldn't be concerned about it. You can always flush it out if the trans doesn't act right. I'd even still add the usual recipe of Type F and a bottle of Lubeguard.

Re: Dextron VI

I have swapped many vehicles from dex 3 to the dex 6 and have had no failures when I took a class on the new 6l90e I was talking to the instructor who has been a trans guy forever he said the main difference other than it's a synthetic is that it is a softer fluid than dex 3 so the new cars feel smoother when they shift

If it was me I would stick with dextron 3 some people even add some type f because it is a firmer trans fluid

Re: Dextron VI

FWIW I have used the original non-synthetic B&M Trickshift in 700R's with no problems. It did what it claimed, shifts did firm up a bit.

Re: Dextron VI

I have heard of people switching to it in gtps but not syty yet. I have thought about doing it to my gtp but with 205k on it i'm not really wanting to swap a trans for an experiment :D

That being said I have heard a lot of positive about dex 6 and just changed my brothers allison with it and its doing fine.

I can still get dex 2e though for the sy which is what is currently in it. Maybe when the sy is actually running I will try dex 6 but who knows. We still use dex 2e at work and get it by the barrel, thats what our trucks say they want so thats what they get :D

I say just try it I doubt you will have a prob and if you do you needed a good reason to swap trannys anyway ;)

Re: Dextron VI

Thread bump - as I am struggling to find Dexron III mineral oil here in the UK and I just had a trans rebuild, I'm going to go ahead and try Dex VI and see what happens.

Re: Dextron VI

I am running Dex 6 in my Chevelle. It is a 4l80e behind a Turbo 6.0 ls. Runs cooler, no issues with heat or slipping/worn clutches. I run a stall converter from PTC. The car makes 835 whp so the trans does get stressed quite a bit. Dex 6 is what I plan to run from here on out for any auto trans I build.

Re: Dextron VI

Len (Stout74) has a Jakes Transmission 4L80E and is running " John Deere Hydraulic Transmission Fluid". It is clear, so a little red ATF should be added, so you can see it on the dip stick. I know this sounds odd, but I just got my torque converter from Circle D and asked them about it and they say a lot of people run it. Worth looking into.
