oh, no i wasen't blamming the vendor, he was just kinda being a ass in general about 4.3's with blowers making anything more then 200-250hp and no mater what i said he kept ahhh i dunno i doubt and then giving me examples of people lieing to him and saying they had T3 T4 hybrids running 1000hp and all this crap,.. then he just starts asking for pics and videos of it running...it so i figured alright screw it i'm not a engineer i don't know thermal engineering to know what amount of meth i need, not thinking he did either but i figured at least he would have the background and past builds to go from and maybe some kinda graphs or tables to go on.
And as far as the motor well at least the bottom end, i wasen't tooooo worried about it really it was a bone stock 4.3L balance shaft with a cam and a timing set i can get another freaking bone stock balance shaft motor for 150-200 bucks, that and id road raced and had shifting at 6000rpms i knew my number was going to be pulled sooner or later, Plus i was already planning on just ridding out the rest of the summer on that motor while i finished up a non balance shaft motor, got screwed on that deal, ya it sucks ass but at the same time i knew i couldn't do much more then i already was on this bottom end.
Oh and we didn't go into things blind, i have a innovate LM1, tts datamaster and TBI chips working on the tune (weve been through like 10-12 tunes getting it smoothed out..), only running 4lbs of boost 5 tops at almost 6000 rpm, and i was running low low 11's in the AF usually 11.1-11.5 at WOT. The problem was no mater what we did because of the roller rockers we were getting some crazy feedback on them and everything else around and getting massive amounts of timing pulled.
I'm talking to during a datalog i was running at the hotel during the road coarse trip, i was coasting NO throttle in the parking lot and they had tar painted down the cracks of the lot maybe .25 thick and everytime i hit one i would get 2 knock counts, by the time i got out of the lot i had a knock count of 40 some NEVER HITTING THE GAS lol and as soon as i did hit the gas light to pull out it just instantly retarded the timing almost 10 degree's.
So remember i'm on old and busted for the moment running 2 barrel 2 injector TBI and its 94 1 bar computer, almost all the guys i know running built or blown TBI stuff either disable knock sensors, move them to somewhere it doesn't even work, or trading them out to a sensor thats i guess less sensitive...
Where i made my mistake is just taking advice from some WELL known guys one of which is up in MI,... a bunch of them sent over what they were running for timing on the same motors.. well they actually had higher compression, same heads, same cam, roughly same intake air temp from blower... and i was running 6lbs less boost them most of them. So we said piss on it and just hard set the timing to about 5 degrees less then what everyone told me to and disabled knock sensors for one 6 mile datalog to see what it would do,... i come back.. venting to the coolant tank however its still running pretty damn good, the only thing is i watch it smoke a little when i first started it the next day (back on normal chip), i tear it down to get some head gaskets.. While its apart everyone starts telling me to check the pistons etc,the center drivers side piston seems to have more slop then everyone told me they should telling me i guess i've blown through the ring lands..
Now the ring lands may have been messed up long ago when i first bought the
www.wynjammer.com supercharger kit, which the 4lbs kit says it requires no tunning, no nothing... we ran it like this for a couple months and didn't seem to have any problems, but we didn't own any type of wideband setup at the time to REALLY know where WOT AF was..
Now on this new motor i'm dropping alot of money in it between all the cryo'ed stuff, 4 bolt billet main conversion, cam, pistons, eagle h beams etc etc all that crap, i wil be running it very very gentle on the TBI stuff until i convert my 2114 intake to 6 true injectors which its looking like i'm going to be running with a either syty ecm or accel DFI gen 6 or 7. Then i'll start to push the boost up some past the 7lbs its set to on my external waste gate were setting it up on.
