daytime running lamps

I need to install day time running lights on the Typhoon. I have been driving around with using the park light switch. What would be the easiest/best way to do this mod? It does not have to be the head lights, it can be the marker lights. I was going to splice in a relay and wire them to the marker lights, but was thinking the truck might go to the fast flasher signal because of that. Not sure, just asking and looking for some advice. Anybody?

Where's your spot location planned for them

I tapped into one of the wires on my car and put side markers inside fender. They were wired so they were lit with park lamp switch, and blink with signal when signaling ( overseas look). Not sure if that's what you had in mind.. Or those LED strip looking things??

Would they consider your fogs as DRL's? When I wired the x-cab, I took ignition hot to the fog switch and then to relay, so I could leave the switch on and ign would turn on/off lights, or use switch.

& that is so dumb that Canada makes you alter a car that was previously acceptable, to new standards.
On my '04 Tahoe, the DRLs are next to turns. I replaced the plug for a 3 wire and put in ambers so it operates with the turns. More visible when passing with the blinker on(Montana speed driving). The wimpy stock DRLs weren't anymore noticeable than a full size white SUV at a distance. Have never taken it to Canada, so I don't know if I'll get hassled for them.

Can you not just drive with parking and foglights on? Thats what I do. Not for legal regulations but rather think it looks good.

I was thinking fog lights, but they are too bright, I guess I could change out the bulb to a not as bright one. Almost sounds like a joke in there somewhere. ...lol. But I would like to keep the front marker light as a drl thing.

Why do you want DRL's Norm? Not sure about your province, but in Ontario you are only required to meet requirements if the vehicle is less than 15 years old, which means that a Sy or Ty no longer has to have DRL's to import.

The law in Manitoba is that any vehicle made since 1989 or newer has to have it. I have been driving around with just using my park light switch on, but forgot and got pulled over the other day and given a warning. He also commented on the noise of the exhaust. But since I have a pretty decent driving record and the fact a pretty loud Harley went by the other direction, I looked at him as to say" that bike is way louder than my truck" he didn't give me anything for that. Just said get them fixed properly. So was thinking on how to do this with minimal effort. There are 4 wires from the light switch( red/black/light yellow and orange). Was thinking of by passing the park switch maybe with a relay or maybe just wiring up the fog lights as I never use them anyways. Always actually hated them.

Re: daytime running lamps

You can buy a daytime running light module right from GM that works really well. You tap it into whichever light you want to use, would work for either headlights, marker lights or fog lights I'm sure, and it activates after your truck has been running for 15 seconds. It does this so your lights aren't on during cranking. I've had it in a couple of vehicles we imported years ago. I have since taken it out though since we aren't really required to have it any more.

Re: daytime running lamps

Thanks Dave for the info, I now have day time running lamps, and hopefully the next problem with the cops will only be noise warnings.

Re: daytime running lamps

Actually I did alot of reading on this subject and for at least for Ontario, DRLs are only required when you import into canada a vehicle that is required to have it to meet federal regulations. After that I can legally remove/disable the DRLS. There is nothing in the provincial code that stipulates that DRLS are required even selling. When you buy a new vehicle it has to have them to meet the federal law, then after that its under provincial law its located in. My 2012 f150 I have disabled DRLs since I have gone to the factory style HIDs. There is 2 places in Canada which the province has placed into their laws requiring DRLs, though right now those places escape me....

Re: daytime running lamps

Manitoba is one province where you have to have drl on any vehicle 89 and newer. Does bit have to be head lights as a lamp is considered a bulb, so park lights work.

Sounds like something CA would do. But when you go to install them, the vehicle didn't come with them, it is then illegal to do but still required.
