Seeing I am new to this and not as computer literate as most of you seem to be, how about a little advice. I have a good laptop, Pentium 3, 1.03 ghtz. What would I need to purchase to do download of my Typhoons running? What is better, diacom or datamaster. I am not having any real problem with my Ty(just a little lag when I start and what seems like a long crank time to get it to start). I just want to find baseline for my Ty. Thanks all.

First thing you need is a cable to hook up to your 9pin serial port on the laptop and to the ALDL connection on the truck. This cable can be made for under $20 if your good with a soldering iron and can read a wiring diagram. If not you can buy it already made for $90 I think. Then you have to get the program. Ive only used Datamaster, and everyone seems to prefer that, Its a really nice program. There is a trail version that allows you 20 uses of the program before it locks you out. Then you either have to buy the program for $120(I think) or redownload the trail version again. The Trail is available at www.ttspowersystems.com Jesse, a list member, has the diagram on how to build your own calbe, I built it so I know it works. His site address is www.syty.huryde.com. Enjoy...

Diacom is old DOS-based software. It sometimes has timing issues with newer PCs. It also uses a proprietary parallel port interface.

As long as you have a PC that can handle it (Pentium 1, 100MHz-ish), DataMaster is great. TurboLink is a new one in the SyTy field also. It has a cool dash display, but people seem to like DM better once the novelty of TL's dash wears off. TL has its own proprietary cable as well.

http://cable.invisibill.net/ has links to a cable schematic and FreeScan, a basic free scanner program.

http://www.akmcables.com/ic.htm sells the cables for $35-$95 (kit or pre-assembled, with or without molded ALDL plug).
