datamaster hookup problems

Ok, I bought a dm with laptop and homemade cable off of a fellow syty'er. The cable worked for him b/c it has runs saved in the program. I finally get this thing out and hooked up and it says "aldl adapter works, just no signal from PCM....check connection between aldl and pcm (ecm)." It does this in both com1 and com2. I've disabled "ccm handshake" and also disabled the infrared driver that it has. I have made sure that the com1 port is open and working. I've also changed aldl timing from 0 all the way to 220's in increments of 5. I even tried linking the dm on a nearby syclone to see if it was my truck....nope, same thing. And tonight, on my last straw, I totally rebuilt the entire cable with the schematics floating around on this board. Still, the same message.
If anybody has any tips i'd greatly appreciate it. The computer is an ibm thinkpad 760el.
Am I linking it up wrong? I connected the data cable to the low right terminal on the aldl. I think that was called the "M" terminal. just for schitz, i've tried all the other terminals. Diagnostic terminal is pretty sweet when you put it in there....the check engine light comes on and the idle bumps up and starts acting whacky.

Re: datamaster hookup problems

All is fixed. I ended up grounding one pin on the serial connector and it connected right away.

Re: datamaster hookup problems

I grounded one of the pins on the serial connector off the homemade cable. I cant remember what pin # it was. I believe it was 5?
