Datamaster connection problem

I had a local member recently use Datamaster on my truck and it worked great. I went and purchased a computer and a USB to serial data connector and it will read the ECM for a couple seconds then lose connection. We adjusted all the USB speeds and it didn't help. Plugged his set up back in and it worked without issues. We adjusted everything to what worked with his computer with no luck. My set up is a USB to serial data to ALDL. His is USB to ALDL. Any ideas?

We also tried his cable to my laptop but I didn't have downloaded software for his cable, so I could not run his. But like mentioned I set the speeds exactly to my settings and still will not connect. We do get a connection for maybe 2 seconds before it tried to sync again and we get a data err
