Datamaster Connection Issues

I finally installed the DM on my laptop and have been trying to get it set up correctly. Unfortunately, I am having some issues with the connection. I tested the Com2 port and have no problem seeing the cable. I go into the Record/ Monitor window and hit the Test Com and it acknowledges the cable "Test Com Passed" and even states the PCM is of an older vehicle meaning 1993 or older (I have a '92). I went to the Serial Data Acqu., then the Serial Data Aquisition - Options - Advanced - Serial Communication Timing and set the ALDL Timing to 190-205. I tried each setting from 190 to 205, even tried 0 and 210, 212, etc. but still get the No PCM Sync...Recycling."

Any ideas? Please:)

Re: Datamaster Connection Issues

I purchased the software and cables (USB) from Andrew K. Mattei @ AKM Electronics. Not sure the brand?? Will check.

turbodig was asking,

Does it use a USB connection to your laptop? or the larger cable pin style?

Re: Datamaster Connection Issues

Sorry, I did not understand the question.

The cable is a USB from the laptop to a USB/Serial Converter. The other end of the converter has a Serial Connection that a Serial wire connects to the truck.

I tried the connection again and still get the same No PCM Sync...Recycling...

When from 193-210 but still no connection.

Re: Datamaster Connection Issues

if the usb adapter came with software make sure you have installed and also you'll have to have the truck on or at least the ignition on for dm to pickup a signal from the pcm I believe.

Re: Datamaster Connection Issues

Not all USB/Serial converters will work... it's very hit-n-miss as to which ones actually work.
I would say there's a 90% chance your USB->Serial converter is the issue.

Some of the Belkin converters are rumored to work. Also, if you have a PCMCIA slot, you can get a card for that that will have an actual serial port on it.

My AKM cable won't work with most serial adapters, either. Works fine on a machine with a regular serial port.

I use my Moates cable on my USB laptops, and it always works fine. The aldlcable.com USB ones also seem to be ok.
