You mentioned Pandora. Does your setup have wireless connectivity? Very slick setup. Looking forward to seeing the setup with A/C on Adam's truck.

Of course. The unit has 802.11n connectivity (modified antenna to provide a larger range of reception) and with USB connectivity one could easily add a 3G/4G adapter and have continuous cellular connectivity if so desired. I personally won't be doing this, but the limitations of this system are no different than that of a normal laptop.

can you integrate a cyborg mulpher enterfer componant system into the etch? I want it to be able to monitor my side to side and g force. but be able to erase itself when i hit the brakes :rotf:

This is almost as cool as the JB4K-6 "mind control" unit I have installed in MY syclone.

Very nice, I had a carpc in my Infiniti and ran Centrafuse as the front end.

I have been wanting to do this to the Syclone.... Very nice/clean install.

Centrafuse was a consideration, but in hopes of keeping this as cheap as possible, forgoing $72 was paramount. Plus, touch capability and voice commands aren't critical for this setup and since TunerPro is what will be active for the most part, sticking with a base OS is fine for me. Media Center actually doesn't a decent job if someone desires a rudimentary media handler.

Very nice Mike. Looking forward to seeing this and what you do with the next one with AC.

I wish I would have thought of that. Great technical analizing of your install. Sounds seriously thought thru to market potentially. The outcome for "stock dash" Typhoons looks bleak. But You make it totally look worth it. Great job, be looking for a market ready product from you soon. Gt_Sgt

Re: DashPC in Syclone 1596

To answer some questions, the setup will have 4 USB ports and an on/off switch integrated into an ash tray panel (yet to be made). We had considered trying to implement a media card reader (SD/MicroSD) into this panel as well, but decided not to in favor of using a USB adapter to perform the task if so desired.

My personal truck will have the electric fan switch, IC pump switch, and methanol LEDs made into this panel. Any production piece won't have these by default, but will have ample space available for you to install your own switches/whatnot. To address the Typhoon issue, space would be available for the rear hatch switch.....and if desired we could cut the hole ahead of time. This panel, in theory, would be different for just about everyone's truck, so all we would do from the get-go is incorporate the USB ports and on/off switch....leaving cig lighter socket and hatch switch hole as options.

Hoping my personal one looks like this:

We have several ideas kicking around including (but not limited to):

- Using the 8.9" LCD instead of the 10.1" LCD (would give back about .5" vertically) and incorporating custom vents atop the LCD.
- Creating new fiberglass ductwork to attach to the vent ducts and route to a new location (below ashtray possibly).
- Blocking off the center ducts and letting the side vents handle the load (not ideal).
- ....and a few others.

We're trying to make my kit and Adam's with reproduction in mind, so minimal cutting (if any) and retaining all existing features (cig lighter, rear hatch, A/C, etc...) are the key goals. Once we get to the point of trying to produce these, I'll address a lot more concerns and get forum input (via polls) to decide how to address some of them.

Re: DashPC in Syclone 1596

Would it be possible to incorporate some type of vent that opened and closed with the A/C to allow for cool air to flow to the components?

Thoughts being if it's hot enough you need A/C on, all that stuff in the dash is probably getting a little toasty as well.

I'm doing pretty thorough thermodynamic testing, and my truck has no A/C in South GA, so it's a pretty good test mule. Heat dissipation for the components I'm using should be more than adequate w/o any external cooling aid, but fresh/conditioned air would be a welcome addition regardless. The consideration would be for winter time and not introducing heated air into the component chamber. So, knowing that, we would need an independent "trap door" for allowing seasonal flow to the components.

Again, the design of this setup is to allow ideal operation w/o any cooling aid. If we can incorporate one like above, so be it....but it's not a primary concern as of now. One big help is that the Northbridge chipset is heatsinked and fan cooled already and since we're not exactly gonna be running Blu-Ray video on the thing (this is a budget minded data logging PC before it's anything else), the load will be moderate at best (meaning it stays cooler naturally).

This is all part of the ensuing testing phase, so I hope to have more results in the coming weeks/months.
