Re: daily driven Syclone = money pit?

I used mine as a DD when I had it and it was very reliable. Like other people have been saying though, you can't be beating on it at every stoplight. I had a few races where a boost launch was necessary, but nothing every went wrong. There were little things I nagged about, but nothing major that left me stranded. It had almost 130K when I bought it also. I drove it a lot from SoCal to NorCal (approx. 13 hours each way) while in college and it was the funnest DD I've ever owned. Had to sell it for a 4dr because a baby is on the way  Will have another one within a couple of years.

I thought it was a "myth" that these trucks were unreliable. I have put 2500 miles on mine in the last year and think the front bearings went out on me the last time I drove it (400 mile trip) ... oh well. Atleast it made the 1300 mile trip home after I first purchased it from VA :D ---

You mentioned using it as a work vehicle for hauling stuff.
Sys aren't designed to really haul all that much cargo weight wise,
and they have a relatively low tow rating. Tys are even worse with a zero tow rating.
It's not impossible to tow or haul heavy loads with them, its just not reccomended.
You can also forget about ever taking a SyTy off road, if your job or interests require it.

I'd need to carry my tools mostly and every now and then parts 4-5 feet long and around 250lbs but nothing over 500lbs.

It has enough stuff going wrong now that I retired it to weekend duty and bought a beater for daily use.... a 1983 Porsche 944.
Yes, I'm crazy.... talk about a car with a rep for high maintenence and expensive repairs... but it was cheap!

about 7 years ago I bought a rare low mileage 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo S to use as a daily driver.

It didn't like being driven daily....at all.
other than the Turbo it was mostly hoses, switchs, seals and gaskets failing but, the down time for repairs
got to be a bigger hassle than it was worth.

That exprience is what makes me think twice now about buying an old car or truck just because I like it.
I like to do small amounts of maintenance on cars but I don't want something that is going to become a second job
or require it to spend most of it's life at a repair shop just to keep running strong like that Porsche did.
