i have a dumb observation/question

according to the combination document all of the major stock components should be good up to 12.5 seconds, so i was wondering, whats stopping them? I mean, if i have a stock truck, what is it gonna take to run in the low to mid 12s, cause thats really what im looking to do, what do i really need to achieve this goal? i think the transmission can hold up to it, and im hoping that the rest of the drive train can as well, but i was wondering what can i do to drop my times down to this level, ive been trying to look through the forums and im just having hard time finding it. Im sure this has been brought up more than once, so im sorry if im bring up something thats been covered already

Why do you think the trans can hold low 12's? I have taken a truck into the low 12's (six-is-enough) via trial and error trying to do it with the minimal amount of parts. I don't think a stock trans is going to do it for you.

The guide you speak of is just that a guide. Gives you an idea, not a hard written rule.

I Bracket raced the Syclone when I had it, runnin 12.2's all day long, local track & drove it 1.5 hours to Norwalk & ran it with no problums, slep in the bed of it at the track. 44 mm. turbo 3' DP & A custom chip. that was it.

I guess I am chop liver.........................................................................

When "Jeff" hit 12.5 in my truck it started to break shit left and right! Trans, transfer case, rear dif, turbo. You can run low12's high 11's on stock parts but they WILL break at that power level!:2cents:

Thinking and hoping wont keep the drivetrain from throwing in the towel . Repeated abuse and high operating temps kill more trans then power alone .Heat related issues are the leading cause of 700r4 failures .

Going fast is only one part of the equation . How many times do you want to go fast , how often do you want to go fast , and do you work on your own truck(tuning) are things also needing to be considered .

thanks guy, some good links in there, and best of all, some hope. I just got my hands on a typhoon, 52000 miles on it, everything seems good on it, its all stock except it looks like someone put a 3 inch cat back kit on it, and its got all new front end parts. Ill go through it tomorrow and check all those vac lines out. Good thing i read that article, i was gonna go and cut my cat off tomorrow, ill have to do a good run down and figure out how to put together a 3 bar map before i do anything like that it turns out.

Where are you at? Always a good idea to get in touch with the locals, pick their brains about your truck.

maybe ill look into that 3 bar map tomorrow then, lol

Re: couldnt post on the combinations thread so..

Stock chip and three bar maps don't jive. You need a 3 bar chip, e.g., a 3 bar ultimate chip or custom tune, also.

Undercoating? Why. If the truck is mint as you say, don't touch it. Just don't drive it in the winter. Why would you spray black or what ever color the undercoating is on a minty vehicle? Just my opinion, but I would not do it.
