Cost of headers

Helping local guy build some headers, I think he was a bit shocked at the cost of just the parts to build them.

I know this topic has come up before, I know everybody wants some $300 headers.

Here is the cost of just the parts to build some and this is MILD STEEL. This is for a LS1, but even the 6 would be similar cost. Double the price for 321 stainless.

2 – ½” exhaust manifold flanges.....$150 for the pair

1 - T6 flange.....$70

2 – 2-1/2” U or J bends for crossover.........2 x $27

2 – 1-3/4” donuts....2 x $37.50

6 – U Combo bends... 5 x $18.95

2 – 3” V bands.... 2 x $43.95

2-1/2” straight crossover pipe...... 4’ is $11.95

1 – Flex coupler for cross over (2-1/2”) Stainless 4'' long…. $37.99

2 – Collectors 1-3/4 x 2-1/2 x 5” long formed..... 2 x $45.00

Total $ 671.59 + some shipping charges….

Re: Cost of headers

you might want to change the black text. it's hard to see on the Syclone theme

Is that without labor costs as well?

Knowing Jeff he doesn't think of others that might use different themes than him..I couldn't see it either BTW :D

I'm sure that doesn't count labor. Although Jeffs labor is cheap, he certainly doesn't work for free anymore (unless you catch him down around 7th street late at night :D)

Re: Cost of headers

I understand man. I bought a set of atr's and built a jig to reman. them for people here on the board. Just the material adds up quick in Mild. I have a price of $530.64 for the parts to build them. I'm concentrating on the 3" dp right now. Headers will be next.

Re: Cost of headers

So, are you saying you/this guy are going to build us some cheap good headers then?

Or is this just a "oh btw" thing? Cause that would be one hell of a price.

Re: Cost of headers

These will be built, and that is just parts. Again LS1 motor, not sure where flangers are I am not sourcing the parts just posting information.

No I don't use the syclone theme, but I find it odd that BLACK text is hard to read.

Damn lack of color variation.....black text on a black background just doesn't work so great. Try red next time, it shows on both themes.

BTW, when is that truck moving in to take your trucks space?!?!

Re: Cost of headers

I built my headers for about $300. Schedule 10 - 304L stainless. I made my own flanges and (5-axis machined) collectors.

http://www.acestainless.com It's china and taiwan steel, but my economics teacher says that free trade is good, and we're all better off.

Just FYI you can get flanges from GM for about 35 a piece. I have the part number at work ill post it tomorrow.

Re: Cost of headers

Yea your man is paying a bit much for the flanges unless it's somthing special. To each his own, I dig till I get the price I want then start the project.

Let us know how it comes out though!

Re: Cost of headers

Just posting prices he has so far, I honestly didn't spend too much research as it isn't my project.

Re: Cost of headers

Well he my pay a bit for the materials but your expert services and quaility is what would cost him the most if you charged him "walk in" rate. If he comes out at a grand or less he still got a deal if you have fabbed them for him

He really should spend a little time and try to find the best deal on stainless though!

Re: Cost of headers

Flanges seem a bit too high. As a matter a fact they are too high. I've bought parts to make turbo headers and have everything. With flanges and minus 2 v-band clamps I'm at $100. It really comes down to where the parts are sourced.

The guy that quoted the prices for the flanges gets all his stuff from here: http://www.spdexhaust.com/HomeB.html

Flanges are the ls1 1.75" round

If you have a link to 1/2" steel flanges please post up :D

Thanks

Re: Cost of headers

I think all said and done I have between $2500 and $3000 into my headers. Of course, that is thick walled stainless, 1 3/4 primaries, 2" cross over, all v-band, coated, and wrapped. :)
